Hi guys,

Just agreed on a car from Cooper BMW! got the car for a price I am happy with. (2013, 118d M sport, 20k miles, auto, diesel, etc) 16500

Quick question, what can a garage throw in for free for me? I have been given the paint and seat protection for free.

I have a personalised plate currently on a certificate, I did ask for plates to be made for free. But was given a choice of either plates at £39 or road tax £30. A friend I spoke to said both plates and road tax should be free?

Anywho, my question is what else can I get added being extra cheeky?

Thanks!

You spent sixteen and a half grand and you're now looking for £30 of number plates?
Guys, thank you all! lol I know the protection costs peanuts hence why I am not one to pay for it.

The deal is completed after I see the car, hence why I thought I will ask if I can get anything else thrown in.

Why didn't you lease in the end?
the car is currently not at the showroom and is having a alloy wheel refurb. I have put a holding deposit down to secure the car.

I'd push for an extra years warranty, I got a 2nd year free of charge when I bought an approved used
I have tried that, and was told only certain garages allow this and this one does not unfortunately.

Hi guys thanks for the replys, I have tried to ask for a few stuff but doubt I would get it. I got the car pretty cheap.

Question, in regards to owners.

The dealership was the original pre-reg owner, then a private owner. So my question is I will be the 3rd owner, will this be listed on the V5? or is the dealership not listed as the owner?

Sorry if I am not making sence.

You will be the third owner yes.

And the rule of thumb is that if you got the car cheap enough, don't worry about plates and tax. Just pay for them.

Plates cost s dealer about £8 a set so I don't see why they would even flinch at making you a set for your private reg but there we go!
Explains why the car was cheap then lol, not sure if I want it now frown

Why?!

It is coming up to three years old, and it is not odd to have had 2 owners in the first 3 years at all.

Dealer car and then a single owner for 2 years or so is usual these days.

Many more expensive cars have 2 owners in the first year and then a new one every year after that.
True, I will ring the dealer up tomorrow and see what he says.

Oh, didn't realise how spoilt I had been with the previous one from Scotthall then - full tank, parked by the entrance, all ready to go!

The Cooper one was away in the car park (f*****t brought down the wrong car to begin with) had the tax disc in his shirt pocket, mats in a bag over his arm, no credit on his mobile to call my bank and had to go and put the generous half-tank in while I sat bored in the office!

I know it was a "used" car strictly speaking but it was a pre-reg on current plate with less than 20 miles recorded, so the newest I had ever bought (or ever will, it depreciated by £16K in 6 and a half years and that hurt when I left my job with car allowance)! Still I had hoped for better from a main agent!

Maybe my refusal to take finance, GAP Insurance or puncture insurance had a bearing!! laugh
Can you tell me more about this pre reg please

Dealers will register the vehicle for extra units to hit targets and for pre reg bonus, Then some mug will come along and buy thinking they are getting a cracking deal where in fact if they bought new they would have likely of got a better deal and be the first owner on the car.

OP im not with this thread as just days ago you had a cracking lease deal over 4 years or something and people posted other deals up for you as you didn't want to buy due to house purchase in the future, next thread you have spanked 16500 on a 1 series and are complaining you wont be the 1st owner and don't want it and will speaking to the dealer.
Charlie thanks for the reply. I understand that its not a new car and its a used car and I will not be first driver. I have just come to know about the pre reg when I asked about previous owners. Do you think I should go for the pre reg?

Me personally I would look at the price of new model compared to what you are getting, Then look on the websites that broker deals Car Wow etc. Some Pre Reg cars can be cracking deals but some new cars can be close to used prices

but if it was me and I had the money sitting my bank account I would wait until next month when dealers are looking for there end of year targets and do the above as there will always be someone who need to hit targets and deals will be had. Be prepared to haggle and walk away there's always other cars and dealers
Charlie, I will be financing it. Its a:
BMW 118D M Sport (Nav) for £217per month
2013 plate
4 year lease
10k miles
3 k deposit
20k Miles
Diesal

total 16500

What do you think?

It does matter because i was interested in the total cost to own this car.

The O/P listed the total as £16,500. However thats not the case. Its £18,500.

The cost to own is such an naive way to look at the purchase. Its moronic using a PCP if you want to OWN the car at the end... what you own is something worth £X which owes £X. And if you're saving up over the 4 years to make that final payment, you'd be better off paying larger monthly payments and using an HP... like for like, you'll pay less interest and own the car for less.

Referring back to the Haliwell Jones deal I posted ( www.halliwelljones.co.uk/bmw/offers/bmw-118d-sport... ) ... the total cost of ownership over 48 months is as follows..

£3,000 deposit
47 x £219
= £13,293

In most PCP cases, the car is worth thereabouts what the Optional Final Payment, so in this case the £9,500 you owe at the end is cancelled out by the fact you are sitting on an asset worth £9,500.

The used car OP has purchased... the total cost of ownership over 48 months is as follows..

£3,000 deposit
47 x £217
= £13,199

As with the new car, we can assume that the car will be worth about £5,000 at the end which will cancel out the £5k debt it owes.

But once you factor in the 3 MOT's the used car will require, breakdown cover, worse fuel economy, ocassional breakdown etc... the new car is cheaper. And you can add a £425 service pack to the New car which takes care of all routine servicing FOC for 5yrs/50,000miles

2p.
do you think should go ahead with the purchase?

I'm not qualified to give financial advice. But re-read my last post and see what sounds more attractive to you.

If you don't understand or can't decide, just crack on and buy the used car buddy. Someone needs to buy it!
I do understand it, but im getting a mixture of reviews. I have several people telling me the car is a bargain you got it for a good price get it. Then I have other people saying no dont etc lol the stress!

OP...

I'm sure the £16,500 is a good deal, especially if this is confirmed by lots of people telling you this. Unfortunately though, the problem is it sounds like you don't have £16,500 to hand to buy it and take advantage of this 'good' deal you've managed to find. This sucks, (tell me about it!). As such, in your excitement to buy this car and take advantage of this good deal you are taking this good deal, and financing it. The end result of this 'financing' is a £3,000 deposit, £217pm for 4 years and little/nothing to show for it at the end.

Now, that's great. Its the car you wanted and you can (hopefully) afford the payments. But... that finance deal (in my opinion) doesn't compare very favorably when you find out you can get a new car on exactly the same parameters (£3,000 deposit, £219pm for 4 years and little/nothing to show for it at the end).

This will be my last post on this thread, but good luck with everything and go with what you think is best.
Thanks mate for your comments I am taking them all in
