Chevy SS vs BMW M3
Discussion
Here in the USA, the Chevy SS (Holden) seems to be a very under the radar kind of car.
Knowing that a manual M3 similarly equipped to a Chevy SS comes in at $67,000 and the Chevy SS is $49,000.
Why is the BMW worth $18,000 more? 10 more horsepower and .7 of a second faster to 60 MPH...IS that the reason?

This time next year, the Chevy will be worth £4.62
The BMW will retain some value....and go round corners...without Axle tramp
Do you even....The BMW will retain some value....and go round corners...without Axle tramp
And " Do I even?" ...
Yes. My first 'Chevy' was a 396 SS Camaro...followed by many variations. On the version discussed, I would imagine there is still some bits of Tom Walkinshaws intervention in there somewhere, but an M3 it's not.
Which is maybe why the M3 is dearer, along with taxes at a guess?

You mentioned axle tramp. You know nothing.

Now, I'm not trying to 'diss' your Vauxhall, or the fact you couldn't afford an M5, but y'know....as previously, you can't put an M car in the same category as a Vauxhall/Holden/Chevy.
Now don't get me wrong, I am a Chevy fan, probably built more small blocks than you've had Vauxhalls, but the Holden/Vauxhall/Chevy is a truck chassis in comparison to that produced by 'Zee Germans' non?

The SS is nothing like the GTS in setup at the end of the day, but the whole "couldn't afford an M5" is bks. I can afford an M5, I just do not like them. I do actually own a BMW, I just find their staff and service fking horrendous, so will not be giving them any of my money ever again. Feel free to come over and slag off all the problems with the VXR8 that you think it has without ever having sat in one. Bet you cannot actually find any of the problems you think you will find.http://www.carid.com/2014-chevy-ss-suspension-syst...

Pretty sure faults could be pointed out in both cars. Am also pretty confident people don't just buy the SS because they can't afford an M5!
I didn't much like the interior of the SS I looked at but it certainly made a good noise! In fact it was better sounding that the V8 M3 I'd driven there in.

I believe I am in a position to comment. Having had many BMW's I currently run a Vauxhall/Holden 5.7vxr monaro.
In comparison to a BMW m3 of a 2005 vintage the M3 has it beaten in most scenario's handling, quality of plastics, better engineered etc. straight line performance is more similar and on the noise stakes while an e46 m3 has one of the sweetest sounding engines around a bairly silenced LS1/2/3 engine is something to behold. The one thing the Holden has is buckets of character.
From an engineering build quality perspective their is a massive gulf. This is where the price difference is. However character and imperfections make the Holdens interesting and they get under your skin. Rarety is also a bonus as with my model their are 62 world wide. This certainly in the UK makes depreciation less of a factor.

Gen-F build quality eclipses even the E series so yeah, your ro is a bit worse than that. We should go for a drive out if you are ever in ther area.In comparison to a BMW m3 of a 2005 vintage the M3 has it beaten in most scenario's handling, quality of plastics, better engineered etc. straight line performance is more similar and on the noise stakes while an e46 m3 has one of the sweetest sounding engines around a bairly silenced LS1/2/3 engine is something to behold.
