Chevy SS vs BMW M3

Here in the USA, the Chevy SS (Holden) seems to be a very under the radar kind of car.

Knowing that a manual M3 similarly equipped to a Chevy SS comes in at $67,000 and the Chevy SS is $49,000.

Why is the BMW worth $18,000 more? 10 more horsepower and .7 of a second faster to 60 MPH...IS that the reason?

Also, why are services costs so high for the BMW?

If you look at it on a per mile basis, the BMW costs are much higher.

To be fair, there is no doubt which car has the better interior.
