So car went in for new water pump, 6 injectors and oil gasket housing couple of weeks ago.

This weekend gone, I have a breakdown. iDrive says car is overheating and to switch off, cuts all power. I park up, open bonnet and engine is cool as you like. Definitely no signs of overheating. Switch engine on and drive off, same again just down the road. This time, wait a few mins, lock and unlock central locking with key fob and start again. Drive home, no problems since.

Further symptoms over the weekend prior to breakdown:
- upon unlocking car made a strange third "beep" that was a lower pitch than the normal 2
- seatbelt handover extender started playing silly buggers going in and out a couple of times

Feels like some kind of electrical gremlin.

Everything I've seen online says waterpump and stat but pump is brand new.

Have checked running temp and it's 105-106 degrees. Coolant full.
Battery at correct voltage.

Any thoughts please?

Tested the battery on my commute today. Mostly 14-15v but every few minutes dropped down below 13 to as low as 12.3v. I don't think that sounds right.

I have contacted dealer and let them know all the issues and that I've copied in BMW UK as it's just becoming a pain.

Should an approved car really be going back almost monthly for work...

I did notice that it was often happening when braking although not every time and not exclusively.
I await a response from dealer and bmw.
I love the car but was expecting less problems than this.

Ouch - I hope you get it sorted soon!

My Z4C just had an electric water-pump and thermostat. The price made my eyes water - does the 335i have one of those as well?
It does but water pump is brand new...

Am I just silly to think that the car will be as easy to run as previous Jap cars I have had?

Quick update:

BMW UK say it's not their problem in no uncertain terms.

So dealer has been ignoring me for a couple of weeks now.

They haven't called or emailed to arrange for warranty work to be carried out. They haven't even called to discuss. Just completely ignored. Also, can't seem to get through to anyone who can help me there on the phone.

Any suggestions?

Don't have facebook. I'm tempted to drive down there but it's ridiculous that I would need to...What's the point of buying approved used if this is the service you receive!

4 months. Already been back twice for works I asked them to sort out prior to initial collection. They said they has but clearly that was rubbish.

Finding another dealership close to me that doesn't have terrible reviews is pretty much impossible. Also, the dealership I have purchased from seem to own several in the local vicinity.

Yes I have thought about mentioning rejecting the car.
They supplied it with AU check and the docs showed a fault that was still present when I collected the car - I have made it clear that I wasn't happy with that.

I don't have much in the way of works history file. I have service record but not much further. I have tried to contact previous dealer that did some servicing but they have not responded.

Beginning to lose faith in any kind of aftersales service from BMW.

Then I think it is a meeting with the service manager, they should have access to where the car's been at least in the BMW Network. Something similar to this screen shot. Plus the key can be plugged in and give history. You will need to challenge them over the fault that preexisted and all you need doing. I can't see why it won't fall within the terms of the warranty.

Yes I have something similar to the above but it doesn't give details of works carried out.

However, service manager has just called and car being collected tomorrow morning. Let's see what can be done!

To be fair it's not BMW, it's the dealer.
Assume BMW license main dealers to sell and maintain their vehicles and therefore uphold a certain level of service on their behalf?

Quick update.

So I got the car back from dealer. They tested everything and said nothing wrong with it and to monitor.
I have been monitoring battery voltage when the car is off. It is around 11.5v.
I have told the service dept and they have written back to say that this is normal and nothing to worry about.
Is that correct? I thought it should be more like 12.5v.
