So a rather nice individual decided to steal my BMW e46 M3 last week but thankfully the tracker on the car located her only a few miles away a few days later and now shes back in one piece.

After going over the CCTV footage i'm stumped as to how he's managed to get into the car so quickly and without damaging the lock or forcing entry though the windows. Its clear he has some sort of device that he fiddles with in the lock for a few seconds and opens the door but while setting the alarm off in the process, but what i don't understand he spends an equal amount of time if not less using the "device" in the ignition starting the car and completely bypassing the immobilizer. I have all the original keys along with the wallet and emergency key from BMW so nothing was taken. I know there have been serious issues with keyless entry cars and fiddling around with the ODB port neither of which applies to the EWS system of the e46 models.

I did hear some stories of inside jobs at BMW and reading the vin number to get duplicate keys made but is that all too far fetched? I know no car is unstealable but id rather have an idea of how these guys are doing this so easily.
