Trying to solve a power loss issue on my 2004 e60 530d, which I aquired a year ago, it has always had a power drop off but not that pranounced that it bothered me, was more when pushing on which wasnt that often, but got worse and worse over the year and got slightly more smokey to boot, this lead me to the DPF which was well overdue to be changed.

As a quick fix for a holiday run I htrew some DPF cleaner through which helped loads and confirmed what I needed to do, no fault codes (carly for bmw) showed at this stage mind.

DPF was changed and car went better than it ever had, job jobbed i thought, then 1500 miles later i start getting similr power issues again, thinking blocked DPF again lead to me thinking why, now getting; EGR, throttle actuator, MAF, pressure sensor and lambada sensor errors but when cleared the only one that remains imediately is the EGR, folowed after a 10min drive by the Throttle actuator.

So, analysed some parameters while on a run and noticed engine temp. never gets above 69ºc, way to low (though -7º here at the moment)

Question is.. do you think this low temp. problem could have triggered some of those other fault codes via the DPF clogging and not being able to regen?

Also, will the DPF unclogg with a regen once both thermostats have been replaced and normal running temps achieved?would the EGR thermostat problem trigger the EGR fault code indirectly?

Thanks chaps, bought the two stats today so will pop em on tomorrow.

I have a force regen option with my software by the looks, hopefully it covers pre LCI cars.

See what faults occur after thats all done..

yeah, got them in ok but discovered the previous owner had done a diy on the swirl flap blanking plates, i.e. not bought! just screwed screws in where the rods came out, not even a rubber washer under head of screws so resulted in oil seeping down onto the engine.

i can only imagine this would lead to a big loss in pressure at the intake manifold, think they're about 30-40psi? so quite important that its air tight, I think the EGR vacuum operates off this doesn't it? most likely this is why I'm getting EGR faults thrown up, if it isn't opening or closing properly could this then throw up codes elsewhere in the system? air mass, throttle actuator etc (did get a map code as well which shows the sensor working properly i guess)
