Problem with 330d SE engine warning light
Discussion
Hi guys,
Having a very depressing weekend so far, was going out for a meal last night and just about 300 yards down the road and a amber engine light came on, half of it was coloured in orange and the other half black, just after i changed into 2nd gear, it lost all power and only did 30/40mph. i switched the car off, checked the oil which was ok and took it back to the house. the thing is it just had a full service and has done barely 50 miles since. has anyone got any advice to what this could be, i've read it could be the fuel pump giving up the ghost, but also wondering if something hasn't been tightened up properly after it's service. any advice appreciated.
Norman.

I would get it back to the dealer that did the service. Presumably you took it somewhere that knows the cars so will have an OBD11 diagnostic port.
What type of service was it? A big on or a minor one? Were the glow plugs fiddled with? Aux belt? Im just thinking of possible areas that may not have been put back correctly.

Hi Neil,
Yeah it was an independant specialist that did the service, and it was and inspection 2 service, i was thinking along the same lines as you but according to the service book, all they did was oil, fuel, and air filter change at a cost of £202 big ones. Feeling like my left arm is cut off at the moment with a car that cuts out every time it gets to 30mph.

Hi,
it's the 05 registration 60000mls, E90 231BHP version. It was running fine before the service, just dont believe it's a coincedence it's happened so soon after a sevice. What were you thinking??
well, i don't know what i was thinking, but maybe their is a common fault with the E90 engines, so knowing the engine people may be able to help more. sounds pretty nasty to me, take it to the dealers or an indi i reckon it's the 05 registration 60000mls, E90 231BHP version. The glow plug light normally comes on for a second or two but thats in less sophisticated bits of kit - ie vans.
Does the car start? If youre losing power once the engine is running it would seem odd as the glow plugs are kept hot by the fact the engine is running meaning it shouldnt die. Im not a mechanic by any means but yes, that is your glow plug light.
