I don't know about anyone else, but I spend far too much time surfing the classifieds on various sites, dreaming/plotting how I can justify bikes.

Thought I'd start a thread so we can point out interesting bikes, unusual bikes or just purdy bikes. Or horrors hehe

Ducati 900SL for £3,500

So, what's everyone else lusting after?

I badly want a 2 stroke , id rather sink 10K into one of these than any ZX10 or S1000R

Id like this NS400

Another one here, bit cheaper http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C297886

Not sure if the earlier ones are rarer, or more valuable though are they?

And I'm with you, I'd love a classic two-stroke.

And pics people, everyone loves pics biggrin

I'd like a modern bike - BMW K1300s or Ducati 999 are both in my mind at the mo.... Which one though.... confused
I think that 749/999s look a bit of a bargain now, to be honest. I've always quite liked their nose heavy, aggressive stance and I'm sure it was only being the one after the 916 that hindered them so much. Tough act to follow!

I do think that they're very colour dependant though, they're about the only Ducati I'd only have in red smile

£4695 here http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C300246

I think they're a really cool looking thing. Bit more unusual than a Laverda, Norton Commando or Triumph Bonneville etc. 1972's the last year of free tax too, I think smile

I'm not normally a big fan of very old bikes but I do like this one and if I had a spare 10k to spend on a bike this could tempt me

Srob - be happy to hear what you know about these?

To be honest mate, I don't really know anything about them! I spotted this for sale the other night, and I was struck by how cheap it is. Vintage singles (Pre-31) tend to have a bit of a pecking order when it comes to value. At the bottom is two-strokes - mainly because they were the cheap, economy bikes of all ranges. Next are sidevalve machines, then overhead valve and at the top is overhead cam. Nobody really made a twin-cam single in that era. There are exceptions - overhead valve Nortons seem to be on a par with overhead cam ones - but as a general rule of thumb it tends to be like that.

For a British vintage, OHC bike (Norton CS1/Velocette K series), you'd be looking at close to double the £10k asked for that, as a minimum. European machines seem to be very cheap by comparison, whether spares availablility has anything to do with that, I don't know.

I could think of worse places to put £10k, and enjoy riding it safe in the knowledge that every mile you're doing the bike's earning you money. I could also think of some better places *cough* 30s Velocette KSS...

Thread revival!

£52,000 NR750 sounds a bit more realistic than some of the prices that have been kicked about for them recently!

I understand what makes these bikes so special, but are they supposed to be any good to ride?
No idea. I'd imagine they make a pretty special noise. And they're a masterpiece. I doubt it'd be as 'good' as your R1 (or any current-ish 1000), but that's not always the point. A Monet isn't as good a wall covering as a can of Dulux, I know which I'd rather have cover a patch of my living room smile

Yep, sad to read isn't it - I'm sure he'd approve of us nattering bikes though smile
