Anyone got either lying around unloved they want rid of? Even a rolling chassis would do.

Remember the RS has the chain on the "wrong" side. KTM engines go well in them.
Yup

Plenty of swingarms out there to choose from, but that's one reason why I'll consider a mito too

what engine?
Well the karting plans have changed and I have all the bits here to build a stonking 250, and could stick a 300 top end on too.

Hmm would defo be using what I have. Got everything engine wise here.

Dunno which is made better out of the two? A lot of 125s are cheaply made but the RS looks decent

To be honest I'd prefer to not be paying for a full bike when I'll be getting rid of most of it

It'll probably be fine actually - you're removing the most troublesome item on the parts that go wrong list straight away after all. Just check for general care and maintenance, damage from being chucked down the road by learners etc.

Spares for both can be a nightmare, and bits are best sourced via ebay or a second bike really.

(Goes for both RS and Mito)
Even the general care and maintenance bit isn't that much of an issue as long as there's no frame damage. A rolling bike or one a kid has blown up would be ideal long as it's got a V5 and not recorded. I have the generator and reg etc to run a battery or could run it with no lights or battery etc at all with a smaller lightened flywheel and pickup I have. Have a brand new 41mm Keihin pro series carb, custom carb manifold and vforce reeds, expansion chamber, different gearbox ratios etc. 2 stroke supermonos aren't really the norm but would be a fun thing to ride.

With a daytime MOT do you still have to have brake lights or can you literally run no lights at all?

One thing that could be annoying is having no autolube system..

None at all, but I'd fit a brake light for my own peace of mind.

Is it not all or nothing though? For example if I fit a brake light I have to fit the rest?

So could get rid of a shed load of wiring lights and battery to get the weight down and fit a race fairing scratchchin

Hmm the horn things a bit of a bummer also I'm assuming it needs a rear light then from reading that. Pretty sure BNs doesn't!

How do you go about registering it and stuff if it's (presumably?) not an engine that was ever designed to be run on the road or in a bike?
It started life as a ktm exc/sx engine that's why I have bits to a generator etc if I needed so not an issue

Ah ok, I thought it was a bespoke gocart engine.
Noooo, those 250 twin bespoke engine cost 13 grand new! I'd keep that in my front room. biggrin

Yazza, this one looks like its coming up for sale on the site I mentioned

As good as a site PH is, you will get much more accurate advice and guidance from the people on the RD forum who have actually done what you want to do.and then some...as well as an increased availability of (cheaper) parts.

A lot of the leading 2 stroke tuners and parts manufacturers also contribute to the board, I shall say no more!
I registered earlier so I'll have a look. Couldn't find a for sale section though?

Is that an RD engined mito?

The idea really was to use what I have tbh but looks a nice project.

Just a number plate and a red rear reflector for the MOT. Then a speedo for construction and use regs.

There's plenty of RS's on fleabay with shagged motors etc and plenty of spares as well.

I've got a buckshee frame and possibly a swinger if you need them. They're only any good for mocking up mountings etc but it saves cutting a decent frame up whilst you work stuff out.

Reminds me I must find some time to sort mine out as it's still sat on the lift doing nowt.
Buckshee?

Good point that might be useful to mockup

Buckshee - no longer accounted for/spare/etc

It's the frame I used to mock up my supermono, it's good for nothing but scrap or mocking up mounts etc as there is a nice hole in the left spar but it saves knackering a good one.

If you want it i'm from Horwich (near Bolton)
Nice one, you has mail smile

Done some research and general looking at pics, have a 'anything is do able' attitude, but I'm thinking Mito is the way forward. RS125 swing arm is completely wrong and I knew that... But was thinking I could fit a different swinger, it's more of a faff than its worth though. The mito will all work, upgrade shock and forks but structurally won't be needing to fab shock linkages and modify swingarms to fit etc so a bit leap forward straight away.

Chatting to a few people to see if I can get a rolling chassis.

For now here's some random carb bits I just dug out from under my bed biggrin

41mm Pro Series Keihin

Vforce4 block/carbon reeds

The ally manifold/rubber I had custom made to fit the vforce block and bigger carb, 41mm taper bored to 45mm where it meets the reed block. Also means a straight intake as the original was at an angle and only 36mm.

Got other bits too but not at home. smile trying to get myself motivated.

Should be picking up most of the bits to assemble a rolling chassis next week if anyone's interested smile
