Is there a practical process for removing the coloured film from a non-homologated tinted visor, and it so, does it leave you with a useable clear visor?

It really is worth it given that you can buy a non-homologated one - which would start off as a clear one that's had a coating added - for under £15. How do the clear, uncoated and legal ones become £40-£50? There's no justification for that sort of price. We're being conned.

so you have a dark one and rather than buy a clear one for £15 you want to wreck the £40 one.

I mean I love a bargain, hell I'm as tight as they come but for fk sake even I draw the line here.
Nay lad you've got it wrong: I bought a non-hom tinted one for £15 to avoid paying £40-£50 for a clear one. Clear ones are not available for £15. If they were I wouldn't be on here moaning wink

Hmm yes thanks for your input biggrin.
The helmet is an HJC CL-14. Have looked for reasonably priced clear visors without success.

The HJC visor replacement procedure is a royal pain and I may just bite the bullet and look for a replacement lid, any recommendations for light, quiet and reasonably priced helmets? Or are those three features mutually exclusive these days?

It did wink but it's pretty marked up now, hence this thread.

This would be my concern also, I'm happy to pay a reasonable sum for OEM but over £40 but a slice of polycarb/Lexan/whatever is barking.

So basically you've wasted £15 whilst trying to save £20. Does what you're trying to do actually make sense in your head because it doesn't to me?
Not really wasted as the tinted visor is fine for most of my needs but it would be nice to have a clear one for the odd bad weather/nighttime ride. And yes I'm quite into the idea of saving £20. Actually it's more like £30.

I certainly would.
Of course there are validation costs for anything but I am very skeptical about the idea of these costs making up anything other than a tiny proportion of a visor's retail price.
