Right October 2014 you no longer need to diplsy a tax disc. Having just read an article about this I am a bit confused (well at least I have some further questions/observations).

1, Are plod going to crack down even further on incorrect number plates as tax enforcement is going to be by number plate recognition.
2, Tax will no longer be transfered with a vehicle, when the vehicle is sold the tax gets refunded to the person selling. Will this effect vehicles with tax discs bought before October 2014(eg 12 months tax bought in September 2014).
3, As there is a lag with the sending of of the vehicle registration documents will you be able to ride a bike home without incurring a fine (thinking of cash buying of second hand bikes, where the cash deal is the incentive to negotiate a bargain and there is no way having handed over the cash you would leave the bike there).
4, Will this also effect adverts (probably linked to my item 2 above) as you wont be able to transfer the TAX.

Anyone wny other thoughts on this?

No I have a standard plate on my CB1300, its to big a bike to worry about the asthetics of small plates. I just know there has been alot of talk of small plates on here in the past.

Link below to the telegraphs article I was refering to.

The main issue I suppose from my point of view is whether the discs issued before the October date still transfer, as we looking at buying the Mrs her first big bike shortly.

Sorry for any confusion I was refering to the sale of a vehicle with a paper tax disc on it after the October change over.

I agree the cost of the proportion of the month lost is not huge if the tax is redeemed and there has always been the issue with part months tax with the purchase date of a vehicle from a dealer when its not at the start of the month.

Where it has more impact and is worth considering are where a current car add says for an old BMW X5 petrol on £450 tax '£1,500 with 11 months tax' but if sold after the 1st October will actually be worth £1095 as the tax will go back to the seller, this may catch the buyer out especially if the disc is still on the car.

If a car sale is on or before the 30th September will making sure the V5 is dated correctly save you the £450, presummably yes as the transfer is before the start of the new tax regime!

And on teh tail tidy smaller number plate issue, ny 6'5" 16.5 stone frame prefers the bigger plate as a small one would make my rear end look bigger

Loon R1,

Thats not what the articles I have referred to and the official goverment link shown by 'Marshalla' advise.

To support this I have copied extracts from the government site and shown them below:-

'From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle windscreen. If you have a tax disc with any months left to run after this date, then it can be removed from the vehicle windscreen and destroyed. Customers with a Northern Ireland address will still need to display their MoT disc.'

'Buying a vehicle

From 1 October, when you buy a vehicle, the vehicle tax will no longer be transferred with the vehicle. You will need to get new vehicle tax before you can use the vehicle.

You can tax the vehicle using the New Keeper Supplement (V5C/2) part of the vehicle registration certificate (V5C) online or by using our automated phone service - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Alternatively, you may wish to visit a Post Office® branch.

Selling a vehicle

If you sell a vehicle after 1 October and you have notified DVLA, you will automatically get a refund for any full calendar months left on the vehicle tax. '

There appears to be no run out of the existing tax discs just a straight abandonment from the 1st October!!

Basicly I think in this instance I think you are wrong!!
