Thoughts on rear sprocket change only?

Chain and Sprockets were replaced 10,000 miles ago... Last October in fact ... The chain and front sprocket look like new ...

The rear sprocket is a renthal and the teeth are worn substantially ... I guess that's what I get for using an alum rear sprocket!

Thoughts on replacing the rear sprocket only?

I generally do the lot in one go but I usually get 20-30k from them not 10k!!

What harm do you think is going to come from changing just the sprocket?

It's more to do with chains and sprockets wearing equally together ... So installing a new sprocket or chain into used parts could possibly cause premature wear of the components.

But tbh I've never tried it to know

I'd certainly just replace the sprocket!

Good enough for me ... Will bung another renthal sprocket in then at 20k bin the lot

Some bikes don't 'like' ally rears - my 916 has had one on for years and it's fine but the Monster's munched through two in 5,000 miles, yet the chain and front sprocket are fine. I've now replaced it with a supersprox 'stealth' sprocket (steel teeth on ally centre) and hopefully that'll last a bit longer.

I've got a brand Supersprox in the garage actually... I took it off and bought the renthal as the Supersprox looked tacky against the wheel colour of the bike.

I've checked with a straight edge previously mate and found the chain adjusters relatively accurate.

Very true ... I reckon it's good for another couple thousand miles and given the bike will need new tyres next month it can wait till then ...
