So ive done 3 track days and ron haslem thingy and ive always rented a bike. This costs 250 quid and im getting to the point where i want to do 4/5 days this year so i dont rally want to be paying all that on something i dont actually own.
Any way i cant really justify buying anything special yet so ive been on the look out for something cheap and cheerful that i can grab and spend a bit of money on. Something that i can learn on and push a little bit and not be bothered about dropping.

So ive agreed to buy this below. This is exactly as it is now so ill update the thread when i pick it up and start doing little bits to it.

Its a 2001 gsxr600. Its been a track only bike since 2004 when a friend of a friend bought it. Hes raced it a couple of times but mostly used it 2/3 times a year as just a track day toy.

So as bought it has

new standard rear shock
k-tech fork internals
ap master cylinder braided lines and ebc pro lite racing discs
akropovic slip on
power commander 3
timing retard eliminator
some japanese rear sets
k&n filter

It was dynod at 109.8 hp which obviously isnt a load but itl do me for a few years hopefully.

As you can tell its in need of a fresh set of fairings but other than that it doesnt need anything to get out and about really.

it also comes with a big box of spares. Spare hoses, levers, full array of sprockets, a quickshifter thats never been fitted (i didnt see the make of it so no more details on it yet) spare screen, spare mid fairings, spare wheels with wets, a rear paddock stand.

Im picking it up sometime at the end of feb after i get a trailer and tow bar fitted to our big dopey navara.

Il also be taking the new fairings to the new paintshop in the woods for a ghetto finish. im just going to rattle can it black if i cant convince my mate to paint it properly.

Other than fairings i have no imediate plans other than ride it at croft in april and get used to it. It has no side stand which ive not quite figured out how im going to get off the bike and put it on its stand without help. Ive been told its easy but i cant figure it out in my head.

Cheers guys. Like I say it's not the nicest bike out there but it's got the right bits on and most importantly I can afford to crash it. Itd suck but if I went and got a 5/6 grand bike I'd be always holding back a little. I can get some proper training as well. I quite fancy the whitham school.

A fresh set of plastics and itl look like a new bike.

Does anyone know how long tyres last when not used. the wets are a few years old.

I love a black bike. I want it kinda like the small boy 750 I rented. But with white wheels.

If your painting the tank it would be nice.

If your not it will look st.

I'd stick with blue and white. It's a great choice of colours.
I'll defibitly be painting the tank I'm not a fan of blue and white. How soon I'll get it done I'm not sure but at some point I will do

What was the outcome for the rider in terms of cost?
I imagine it'd be the £500 maximum liability. I think they might of put the price up to 750 because of this incident though.
Unfortunately it's part and parcel of renting bikes out. The easy thing is to say for every bit of extra profit when an accident doesn't happen put it aside un till it's the amount of a full bike for when something like this happens. But life doesn't always work like that I guess and if someone's being wreckless it's not going to go down well.

Would a bike rental co have some sort of insurance?

Where is it? I could run up to there with you in my van if you want.
It's ok cheers. I've got access to a van but I'm not in any rush at the moment anyway, I'm trying to cleanse the garage so I can paint it all before I bring anything else in. It's actually in droylsdon which I think is over your way ish. As long as I get it for March so I can prep it for croft I'm be happy.

Cheers for the offer tho.
