Not sure this is the right place to post

My son had a car pull out on him on his nsr 125 he hit the right rear of the car with the front right of his bike, The guy has admitted responsibility and his insurance company have confirmed this

He has TPTF only not fully comp

He has let his insurance know and they have said they can deal with the claim. He has also been contacted by the other guys insurance who said they can deal with it.

Both are offering him a hire bike at no cost to him

It is a 2002 bike and the chances of getting new replacement parts for it is pretty slim

He is happy to repair the bike using second hand parts and his insurance co said this would be ok, he has not asked the other co.

The cost of s/hand parts would be about £500 bike is worth about £1K ??

Question is would it be better to deal with his own insurance company or the other guys insurance?

That is what I thought would happen, I was not expecting his insurance company to dsay they could deal with it

We have decided to let his insurance sort out the claim as although they may try and milk it they should at least have his interests in mind as well as there own.

It is still a hassle as he has had numerous departments ringing up to sort each part of the claim out. The one who phoned about his injuries was interesting as had to tell them quite a few times he had none.

Anyway they are dropping him a bike off on Friday and collecting his and said they will assess it within 48hrs so hopefully early next week he should know what will happen..

Whatever happens we would like the bike back as we have another project bike that the engine would be ideal for.

They won't. It's not his Insurer dealing with it. Watch out for credit hire on the replacement bike.
Please explain credit hire

Have read all the documentation that has been sent through and they make interesting reading

We have cancelled the accident management company who his insurance passed him on to and are letting the other guys insurance deal with it.

As it happens they are organising a replacement bike and repair through BLD exactly the same company as the accident management company were. The main difference is that they are organising the hire of the bike on a day rate and it wont be a credit hire.

What a minefield insurance is these days, was a lot easier in my day smile

I'll try and keep thread updated as may be of use to other people

BLD came and collected his bike today and dropped him off a bike. He was not very impressed that they gave him a 125cc scooter. They said they did not have any geared bikes available but would swap it for one when they had.(we shall see) Funny how you are not allowed to have a better bike than the one you had but they can give you a inferior one. Still, will get him to work ok. just not any good for going to the greasy biker cafe with your mates smile

Said should have assessed on Monday so should know pretty soon what will be happening (probably be beyond economic repair)

Thought I would update

3rd party's insurance company rang on Monday, it was a close call to repair or Cat C but they chose to Cat C. Offered him £1500 for bike or £1085 and he keeps bike. He paid £500 for bike, although he took a chance as it needed some work doing and had no MOT

He has had the bike back today as it will make good spares to go with the other 5 bikes in various stages he brought as a job lot a couple of weeks ago or to put back on the road.

In the job lot of bikes was one that only took a bit to get through the MOT and is a very tidy bike (a lot better than his old one was) so he does not need to get the accident damaged one back on the road desperately.

One thing I can't seem to find out is that if a Cat C bike needs a VIC check or not? I know a car does but have read that a bike doesn't can anyone clarify this please
