Been noticing the moto 2 boys taking their outside foot off the foot peg in a turn, anyone explain why?

My understanding was that you weighted the outside peg to help generate grip, inside peg to generate wheel spin.

Is it so they can hang off further? Also noticed a couple of supersport guys doing it as well this year.

Just heard Neil Hodgson mention on free practice coverage that Randy Mamola was doing it years ago but not why he was doing it.

biggrin I just want to add it onto my list of things to do when I'm wobbling round in the slow group this year.

So far got the doctors dangle, getting my elbow down, takin my outside foot off the peg and talking about saving it on my knee Colin Edwards style when I get back to the pits!

I was doing it nearly 30 years ago on track before the Moto GP boys started doing.

I only did it because I thought I wasn't going to stop though
I don't think he means the dangling leg, he means the outer foot leaves the rearsets when cranked over. There's a guy did it all last year in the Triumph Triple Challenge and he's doing it this year in SS600. It looks like he's lowsided at every corner.
Spot on. Just realised BN misunderstood me.

That's exactly what it looked like first time I seen it, I thought they were lowsiding off and saved it.

Do you lot actually think about this shyte when riding your bike?

FFS....just enjoy your bikes instead of trying to split the fking atom
I don't, never have done, never will do. I'm just amazed that people claim to think about this stuff or do ot
I don't think about it when I'm riding, just wanted to understand the theory behind it. I would imagine for some top flight racers they are always looking for that bit extra. Taking my foot of the peg when at maximum(for me)lean is the last thing I'll be trying!

That just sounds rude!
I feel the need to point out I bear no responsibility for the outcome of you trying to get a pic of your head down.

Been trying to find a pic of what I was talking about when I started this thread but drawing a blank

Love the nonchalance in the last pic, almost as if you're saying played for and got! Well saved, looked like you could have been highsided into a shallow orbit/hospital.

Here's a good example of it. Note his left foot is miles off the rearset

So what's your thoughts on why he's doing it? He does look to be hanging off more but hard to say without a comparison pic of the same guy.

Getting more weight to the inside/more hang off seems to be the most likely explanation but you'd surely reach a point where you're hanging off too much and being a hindrance to yourself.
