Hi all. A friend was unlucky to have his bike written off last week, when a lorry driver rear ended him at traffic lights.

Having gone through the claims process myself, I want to ensure that he gets a fair price for his bike.

It's a BMW R1200GS (Not the Adventure model) 61 plate, 36,500 miles full service history, immaculate condition and one previous owner.

If anyone could give an accurate valuation on replacement value, I would be grateful.

Cheers!

Sarcasm, well done. I've already tried that, but none of the models for sale match the spec closely enough to gain an accurate value.

what's with the rolly eyes?? you haven't provided a specification either so what should we go on??
If you are going to come here asking stupid questions then expect stupid answers in return.
And what makes you think we'd know the value when you seem to be struggling to find out? ?
its worth 2 grand. There you go...
All of the bikes for sale are either different years, miles, or Adventure models. The question wasn't aimed at the general biking fraternity, but as on the car forums, there's usually a Dealer or two who may be able to help.

Sorry to have wasted 10 seconds of your time reading my post...

8k ish I'd guess? Depending wether you are looking at a private or a dealer sale price. There isn't a Fixed value though is there? It's the old cliche that it's worth what someone will pay on the day.

Did you get an estimate from a bmw dealer? IE ask them for a written quote of what they'd retail the bike at, as that's what your mate would have to pay to replace it.
Thanks for the reply. He's been a little pre-occupied with his injuries, but I did mention to him going along that route. Was just looking for a second opinion.

It would be a Dealer price, thanks.

Hi Loon, yes, I appreciate the method used by Insurers is as you described. I was just looking for a ballpark figure from someone who may have access to the guides.

Thanks for the reply. Always good to hear from someone who actually knows how things work in the Insurance industry.

High 8s to low 9s then perhaps? There are a few dealer bikes at 10 but they are all under 20k miles.
Hi again, I hope that he gets an offer in line with Loon's advice. He doesn't need any more hassle at the moment!

Cheers

Hi, that's good to hear, but my own experience wasn't great to be honest. My initial offer was half of what they eventually paid me.

It was only a low value car anyway, we weren't talking about thousands.

Thanks

Tim
