This thread will keep MTB happy...

After criticism for wearing shorty gloves at Cadwell, want the best gauntlet style gloves that have have maximum feel, i.e. thin and flexible on palms and fingers. I"ve tried on the RST and a few Dainese ones in shops and they are way too bulky. Mitzy had these thin Dainese ones, but I don't think the floral pattern would go with the rest of my outfit... tongue out

Anyone any experience of these Alpinestars gloves:

GP Plus

SP-2:

GP Pro (look best choice)

Thanks for all the feedback.

I've used the Dainese full metal gloves for the last 4 years and they are incredibly comfortable, offer great feel and when the kevlar stitch gave way, Dainese repaired them quickly. Overall, very happy with them. These are the current versions.....

Tried those in a shop, really didn't like them. That metal plate on the back is horrible.

Dainese and the Knox I really don't like how any of them look.

I've ordered both the SP-2 and GP Pro gloves (looks and feedback). If I don't like either, I'll return them and try the Held Titan Evos:

GP Pro are good Gwm but they don't like the cold and wet. The leather on the palms actually seems to get damaged when it's wet. The finish is also not consistent on the stitching.

I like mine but I wish I'd bought the 365 ones instead as I use them for all riding.
That's ok with the weather stuff, as I'm a sunshine seeker only! smile

Try Held Phantom 2's or Titans if you can stretch to them. Great feel and protection.
+1
They are indeed awesome. They're also a bit longer than pretty much every other glove in their class but so comfy and light.

Are they worth the premium, especially when Alpinestars and (most) Dainese are cheaper?

I also have a pair of Alpinestars GP Pro, which are also awesome but the Phantoms have stingray, lots of rooskin and I'd be inclined to say are built a bit better.
Haha, so leather league goes:

I went through 3pairs of Alpinestars gp pro's in 3 crashes.

Then someone told me about Held gloves. I had a pair of phantoms. Also crashed 3 times but this time the same put lasted perfectly. I retired them to my spare pair and bought some new Titans. Not crashed in them yet but I'd be happy to do it. Wouldn't wear the alpinestars ones if you paid me.
What happens when they're sponsoring you and they want you to wear their new condom thick gloves?! smile

For Pete's sake! Are there any gloves that everyone agrees are good and won't drown any fluffy kittens during use?!

Got the GP Pro gloves - initial impressions are they look good but very plastic-y and stiff on the back of the hand. Tips for breaking them in?

The SP-2 are on back order, so will get them as well to see if they feel any better. I know I should force myself to get used to bulkier style gloves, but I really do like my fabric stubbies!

I have the Alpinestars sp2. Got them in 2xl as I have extra long fingers and all other gloves press on the ends of them.. pretty comfy so far but could do with a mini wrist strap as well as the gauntlet though.
The GP Pro above have a wrist strap as well as the gauntlet.

Only just bought the sp2 and they were half the price of the pro's. In a few months I'll upgrade again smile
I've got those coming as well, but on back order.

Like these ones. Will add them to the list of possible replacements along with the Held ones if either of the Alpinestars I don't get on with.

What have you crash tested out of these two?

ETA: I came off at Oulton wearing shorty gloves, lucky for me it was wet grass. I do see the point of wearing gauntlets, just happy to take the chance for the sake of feel.

Years ago the trick to breaking in learher boots was always to soak them in hot water, hammer the heels (literally) then put them on to shape them. Surprised there's not similar for leather biking products! (Cos hammer is the tool for any job)

Both of them, along with the preceding versions and they all held up well, hence why I keep using them. They are all well serviceable after the crash, although the third crash did for one set.
Ok good to know, especially after some damming criticism of the Alpinestars gloves.

After a silly massive delay getting the SP-2s from Sportsbikeshop, found them on eBay for £20 cheaper (yes probably fake yada yada)

See what Fleegle means, without the chunks of plastic they are much comfier.

It's just the thread that keeps giving! smile
