I have been looking for a project bike for a while and initially looked at a FZ400R but decided against it in the end, then I found a 1987 GPZ500S just up the road, so I went to look at it last weekend, anyway the GPZ arrived Friday afternoon, so far I have done the following:

1 - Adjusted, cleaned and lubed the chain
2 - Dug out half a ton of crud from around the front sprocket.
3 - Sorted out some wiring issues as the indicators did not work properly
4 - Charged the battery.
5 - Drained, flushed the coolant and re-filled.
6 - Checked and adjusted tappets - good job I did as they were very tight.
7 - Checked compression 145-150psi (did this before I adjusted the tappets)
8 - Cleaned and gapped plugs
9 - Stripped starter clutch and ordered new bolts and gasket for it.
10 - Sanded part of the tank down and primed/painted it to stop it going rusty.
11 - Gave the lower fairing a coat of paint to tidy it up.
12 - Stripped down the front caliper as it was sticking and re-built (new fluid as well)
13 - Replaced the Cam chain tensioner with the one of the spare engine as it a newer type.
14 - The carbs are water heated, but they were leaking, so I bypassed this feature, I also stripped the carbs and gave them a once over, also manually synced the butterfly valves.
15 - Drained oil ready for fresh.

Once the gaskets, oil filter etc have arrived and fitted it should be ready for an MOT. After it has been on the road for a while I will then be able to see what else need doing to it (hopefully not a lot).

Its not perfect by any means, a couple of the fairings have cracks in etc and the paint job is different, but with a bit of elbow grease it should be presentable. I think the fairing rebuild will probably wait until winter.

It also came with a another engine and carbs but I think the engine has seen better days but it will be ok for spares. It also has a full Stainless Motad exhaust which needs a bloody good polish smile

This is her as she stands at the moment, the fairings etc are only loosely fitted,
