Bikers face a number of common issues: scamera vans, dodgy road surfaces with pot holes,
diesel and other slippery crap, mobile phone using car drivers, suicidal pedestrians and cyclists,
exposure to the elements, risk of death or injury and general misunderstanding or negative opinions of non-motorcyclists. On the plus side motorcyclists share a love of the freedom and thrills that only riding a motorbike can bring.

One might hope that the shared joys and adversities would bind bikers together....but judging by many threads in here (the one about GSs being a recent example) this doesn't seem to be the case with true vitriol being reserved not for non-bikers but for those fellow bikers that don't ride exactly the same types of bikes or dare to enjoy biking in different ways.

I know some of the criticism is banter but there seems to be more than that with some people on here.

If I didn't live by the motto: never underestimate the capacity for human stupidity, I would probably despair.

Reminds me a bit of a scene from my favourite film:

(Brian): Brothers, we should be fighting against the common enemy!

(Others - looking around): What, the Judean's people's Front?

(Brian): No, the Romans!

This is brilliant and I'm with Prof on this one. I drive more than I ride, so where's the suggestion that as we all drive we should be best buddies too? I nod to other riders on the road and am polite(ish) to others when they come over to talk. However, I'm also blunt when I come across dheads IRL and on here. I got bored of people asking me mechanical questions about my bike when it was new, so I walked away with my helmet on to stop that happening. I also got bored (and still do) of people telling me that I can't ride bikes, because mine has ABS, TC and anti wheelie where there's doesn't. I'll take that off people I know and who can ride faster than me and that's it.

Why are people so precious all of a sudden? I grew up in an environment where if I was wrong I was told I was wrong and it was explained why. I wasn't cosseted and wrapped in bubble wrap, so as not to offend my inner Scouser. Stop being so fking wet about it, bunch of shandy drinking southern poofs
