Euro Track Day Tyre Choice
Discussion
For the Guy's (& Gals) who venture to sunnier climbs for some TD action, what tyres are you using in the heat??
We've got a Phakisa Double Header coming and the weather is getting silly.
38 today and getting hotter. problem is running in these temps and considering Phakisa is a very abrasive track, I'm having a crisis of tyre choice.
Normally I'd stick to my usual Metzeler Racetec K2 slicks but if the temps are where we think they'll be, I'll be lucky to get a day out of 2 rears! Problem is the consistent high speed on the right side which eats the tyre at the best of times.
I'm actually thinking of trying the Metzeler K3 on the Aprilia just to get some extended tyre life, even at the loss of some performance and to allow me to ride on the road the next day.
What do you lot use??
Cheers

Cheers for the input guys,
Problem here is availability.
Typically there's Pirelli and Metzeler, lots or R10's and some Michelins and that's about it.
As you say, the k3 will probably take such a beating it's be better to stay with the K2 slicks and reverse when required. Sadly I don't have a spare rear for the Ape so it'll be a bum rush to get it done between sessions
As for the Dunlops, Fort Dunlops, when the D211 GP was here it was more than a second quicker around Kyalami than anything else. People would sell their children to get a set
Have to say the K2 Racetec slick is mighty impressive but I think I need to just suck it up and accept it for what it is..It's going to be nigh on 40 degrees on a sandpaper track. I'll take pics for comedy value
