Cars moving over for bike - helpful or confusing?
Discussion
Usually when driving, I'll try (when safe) to make more room for a biker wanting to pass, by moving left a little.
I've no problem with bikers 'making progress', and I feel it also lets the biker know I'm aware of his (or her!) presence.
Does this practice actually help, or could it cause unnecessary confusion?

Romanus eunt domus
That has to be one of the funniest scenes in movie history - at least for those brung up on Latin in the 1970'sI suppose in asking the question it shows that I do have misgivings about trying to 'help' our two-wheeled comrades.
In some ways it's a bit like headlight flashing: if everyone knows what's going on it can make a lot of sense. Unfortunately, not everyone does
If I do move over, it's never into the gutter(!). In town at low speeds it can be enough to aid safer filtering - on the open road it's only really to imply I've 'clocked' the biker sitting on my shoulder.
