Hi, I asked on supermotojunkie.com why all the threads for my bike are from back when it was new and I generally lamented the fact that a lot of the forum members seemed to buy stuff as soon as it came out in a sort of impatient child like way.

I was NOT expecting the back lash:

Here are some quotes from the thread

Let's say you are looking for a girl to start a long term committed relationship with and you get to choose between a brand new virgin who has never been ridden or a girl that has some mileage on her, she looks okay with maybe a couple of blemishes, but you have no real idea about her past; how hard she's been ridden, used and abused, or if she maybe has a dirty secret hiding that flairs up a couple months into the relationship? I know which one I choose if I have the option.

I've gotten just as excited buying a new bike as I have a used bike. Just depends on the bike. But I will say, buying new has never, ever sucked. Can't say the same about buying used, but that's part of the fun.

My only advice: Get a real job, move away from home, save your money and buy a new bike at least once in your life.

But overall, I agree with Organ Donor....why do you give a runny st what anyone else does? Live you life, don't waste it worrying about st you can't control.

I have nothing against old stuff.
I restored/fabricated/customized a 70 year old car from the ground up - every tiny little piece. I had to make a lot of it from scratch. I like working on st.
But with a bike, (that I am frequently way out in the middle of nowhere on) I like knowing what it has been thru and how it was maintained.
Then once I have that shiny new bike I ride it into the ground for up to eight years and then off it.
I feel sorry for the person who gets it after me because I know it is very seriously tired by then.
That's what I am trying to avoid by buying new - someone else's worn out old sled.
Plus...new bikes really are THAT much better by the time 8 years go by.

I buy brand new cars, I upgrade my computers often, I have expensive taste and like the latest and greatest !!! LOL

I know I'll get flak for posting this here (I'm a big boy, I can take it), but I bought my WR250X three years ago used, bought my 690 SMC last October used, and sold both 3 weeks ago and bought a brand new leftover 2015 FZ09 with zero km's on the clock. I still love supermotos and my next bike will probably be another sumo, but for now I have my first sportbike. I know, I know...

One of the best parts about it is that it's brand spanking new.
In general, I don't like used stuff (there's nothing wrong with used, it's just not my cup of tea), and I don't mind paying for the "piece of mind" of knowing what it's been through, how it was maintained, and if there's a problem, it's my fault. Not to mention that new vehicles just plain work perfectly...

One thing you said was that you like making a bike "your own". How is that different with a new bike vs a used bike? If you're buying and/or fabricating parts to customize it, you're replacing what's there anyways, so it doesn't make a difference if it was stock (new) or aftermarket (used/ pre-customized).

As I said in one of your other threads on this topic: "Stop complaining... You're welcome !!!"
It's people like me who make it possible for people like you to buy things. I'm not trying to belittle you at all. I'm just stating a fact. It takes somebody like me to buy new stuff, so that somebody like you can buy it from me when I'm done with it.

And most of all, as others have said, WHO CARES what other people are doing with their money, it's THEIR money !!!
Can you believe these people are getting so worked up!? I have not insulted them at all!

Personally, I think it's a waste of money buying something new. Why take the depreciation hit? Why not wait a couple of years until it has a good used price tag and make do until then?

On the threads on forums I keep finding posts lusting after the latest shiny model of a given motorbike which to me, at least, seems a bit sad. Does a new one really do things that much better? It still relies on two wheels, an engine and handlebars doesn't it!?

Any chance I could have some "backup" over there, everyone seems to be against me.
