Guys, if you are heading over here on 2 wheels, please be careful - this is pretty shocking and sad.

What a stty stty thing to see. I certainly don't want to diminish the severity or loss but, this took a staggering set of circumstances to line up to get this result. The knob had been on the wrong side for ages and wasn't looking, the oncoming bike inexplicably didn't see him and then two objects 1.5ft across somehow met head on.

I appreciate the reasons behind the police and so on posting these but for me I still manage to always file them under "it won't happen to me". If I couldn't do that, how would I distinguish between seeing something of this severity and seeing a more minor off? I'd never leave the house.
I travel this road daily on the way to work and back, and it may seem like a crazy circumstance, but the same thing happemed in a very similar way to 2 vans in the exact same spot only 8 months previous, killing a friend of mines nephew.

There has been many other incidents over the years. In my 10,000+ trips over the mountain I have had to resort to some pretty extreme moves over the years to stay accident free. I can tell you that riding on grass at 120mph is not much fun, nor is having to physically choose the gap between 2 overtaking cars coming the other way. But it does teach you to do everyone else's thinking on the road!
