I popped into my local dealership for a couple of bits the other day and got into conversation about the next bike I'd like to upgrade to...talk quickly turned to Tiger 1050 Sports and in particular the 2013-2016 model. Fast forward to Friday and I took one off the shop floor for a test ride. a 1 owner, 10000 mile example with FDSH. The last big bike I rode in anger was a 1996 RF900R so that was my main point of comparison, along with my own 2003 Speed Four. The Tiger is superb. So accomplished for all road types, comfortable, flickable (although not quite like the Speed), excellent brakes, more power than I'll need in this country...I just couldn't fault it. Deposit is being paid tomorrow!!

Only downside is it's red and we all know black bikes are fastest. Still, at least it's not pink!

The 1050 engine has steel liners and some of them like a drink so keep an eye on the oil level.

The gearboxes are agricultural to say the least, providing you keep an eye on the chain tension and lubrication the gearshift is OK.

The 1050 engine is basically a 3 cylinder GPZ900 lump that had a cylinder lopped off and was bored and stroked to 955 then stroked to 1050. Not the most hi tec engine out there but they are a superb road engine, a torque curve flatter than a witches tit!

Does it have a gear indicator? The power curve is so flat you'll find yourself in 5th thinking you're in 6th.
Gear shift was fine on test, but then comparing it to me 13 year old Speed Four gives it a huge advantage.

I've already encountered the "wrong gear" scenario...presumably an indicator is a simple addition?

Correct. They seem a decent bunch and are including the not quite due 12000 mile service for me so it'll have fresh oil and be all adjusted and that...

I was only in there by chance as Birmingham Triumph were so uninterested in my £10 parts order I went elsewhere.

first ride into work this morning, raining a bit in Cannock but the usual spray nightmare on the M6 - like riding through a car wash...I definitely need a taller screen and I'm only 5'8" but generally it was a lovely comfy ride. The bike feels nice and sure footed on the Pirelli Angels it came with (presumably not the factory originals at 10000 miles but as I got no previous owner receipts they could well be. The rear's looking a bit squar, tbh, so might be time for a change anyway. That motor is just so fab compared to the screaming little IL4 in my Speed Four. A very easy ride.

UPDATE: I'm deeply in love. There is nothing I need from a bike that this Tiger Sport cannot do. I'm loving it!

I was very impressed also. My test bike was running Pirelli ST's, which were pretty good in the warm weather. You can really put the bike on its ear.

Great sound even from the stock exhaust. Please tell me you have an Arrow on order?
I'm checking out different exhausts on the facebook group at the moment...I have Angel STs on mine

Hello. 4000 miles in and I love it. Hugely capable, great engine, finish seems excellent, comfortable, great handling, excellent mpg. I just wish the roads would get a bit cleaner!
