Dvla issued full bike entitlement by mistake. Legality to us
Discussion
Hi all my mate passed his car test about a year ago, sent provisional off to dvla and full licence he received as well as his car entitlement it also has bikes included. He's never ridden anything more than a twist and go but is daft enough to buy a big bike without thinking it through.anyway would it really be as simple as him buying and insuring it?

It appears that their answer to people losing motorbike entitlements is that they don't make such mistakes, and what is on your licence is definitely what you're entitled to...

Sure he's not got the 79 (3) against the A class license? Trike only if so. Personally think as above could find himself in very hot water if used without entitlement. Do the tests and earn it if he wants it. Rest of us had to.
This is usually the case. People don't bother looking at the numbers on the side though. When i passed my bike test they took my car entitlement away, it took weeks of hassle and endless arguing with the absolute thickest people wales have to offer to get it straightened out. My work photocopy my license every year and even offering to send them 10 years of photocopies wasn't enough to maybe cause a lightbulb to appear that maybe they made a mistake somewhere down the line, because they never make any mistakes.

It indeed a full bike license. He passed entitlement b1 and received category A as well. No mistakes or misinterpreted categories.
It will be for the provisional. Lots of people I've stopped have 19/01/2013 as a date on their licence for cat A. They have never ridden a bike or taken their test.
Is that the date he has?
Be careful. ALL car licenses have an A provision; it isn't a full bike license. I'd check very carefully before taking action.
The other side of the argument of course, is why would you want to ride a big bike without having had sufficient training? There's a reason most decent road riders take advanced training at some point in their careers...

They took my bike entitlement away after moving house.Despite having the original green license, the pass certificate, years of insurance, etc DVLA said "nope you don't have it - we don't make mistakes."
wkers!
Cost me over £2k to retake the test urgently, insurance increases, etc.
The examiner who took my test had them do it to him around the same time! Even with a DSA letter, etc he needed legal beagles to get them to cave.
I took them to court and won BUT I didn't get a penny back as by then the NCB, costs, etc were back down to where they were previously due to the fact the insurance company honoured my original license.
Didn't even get an apology.
Utter shower of ste.
I know have a folder with copies and originals of EVERYTHING!
Anything ever needs changing, they either get a copy of I "lost" the original.
They charge the same anyway so they can swivel if they think they will ever get another original document off me.
