Did we do boots recently, as in, which are the best? The search function, when I tell it I want to search for the term "boots" in BB only, helpfully points me to a thread about a broken boot catch on a VW Fox…

My ancient Sidis are past their best, and my little incident this week highlighted that there is a 2' gap between the top of my boots and the bottom of my knee armour which you can be sure is at the same height as a bruise-inducing Golf bumper. So it's new boots time.

Waterproof (properly), comfortable, and as high-legged* as possible please.

*No pictures of FMBs ta, I know where to find those wink

I started looking at adventure boots because of the gap from boot to knee armour and found the ski boot style clips really good for a comfy fit.

I got these for Christmas and wore them the first time today. They are warm enough, sturdy, light weight and can be tucked under jeans.
Those do look pretty good, but I have some Alpinestars enduro boots and on my old R1100RT, I couldn't get them under the gear shift. My 1200 has been taken away for assessment/repair now after Wednesday's shenanigans so I might have to wait til its back before ordering boots so that I can try them.

I know the Daytonas are well regarded, and apparently high quality, but they all seem very low on the shin to me? I really down something a bit longer.

I've been wearing these for the last few years and they have been great, once broken in they are very comfortable and never let any water in, they work fine for me in both hot and cold... I've done about 18k miles in them and they clean up a treat .. so are wearing very well ..I've just realised they are discontinued now though so getting them in the correct size might be an issue but they are still about ..

What bike do you ride in those? Just seen a new pair in my size for £189, but I don't have my bike at present, and I know from experience that when I tried to ride a road bike in Tech 3s, I couldn't get under the gear lever?

Tech 3's are motocross boots. And no good either (I bought some, they're like skiing boots).
Why would you even try to ride a road bike in those?
Because I had hurt my ankle and needed the support and something which I could get on my leg; I wanted to ride the bike so I thought I'd try them. I turned round 100 yards from home. Note I said "tried".

I've done a lot of offroad work and I like the Tech 3s for that. My current pair have been across the Sahara on a 450EXC a couple of times so they can't be that bad.

I used them on a Tdm and now have a 1250 bandit, they work fine for me on those bikes although I think I did adjust the gear lever up a little so I could get my toe under the gear lever ...
Ah cheers, that's interesting, I have a TDM in the shed which is for sale and a 1250 Bandit courtesy bike outside so I could try them with both of those!

Ahhhh I've just clocked who you are! you've had a name change ..laugh In that case my size 11's worked on the very TDM you have in your shed smile
Ha ha ha, the penny has just dropped! Sorry, I didn't remember your username only your real name!

Yes, I'm going to move the TDM on, it's been very good to me really but I do prefer the BM. Ironic that I'm on a 1250 Bandit at present!
