I'm considering starting to use a moped or small bike to commute, but the rules on licenses doesn't appear to be that straight forward.

I passed my car driving test in 1998 and have held a full license ever since. Does that mean I can just apply for a provisional motorbike license and then ride any motorbike under 125cc with L plates and not carrying a pillion passenger?

Thanks.

Thanks all.

Re the 50cc, I think a full car license pre 2001 allows you to ride a moped on L plates, with a moped being a bike limited to 50cc and a top speed of 31 mph.
