So, after all that talk on these forums, I have bought myself my new bike. A 2001 TT600.

I went all the way down to Dave Death's Bikes on the Isle of Wight today and managed to haggle a lot and get a lovely deal on:

as well as these:

which are on order

I can report that the TT600 is a ridiculously unique machine, insanely nice handling, very quirky (but fun!) engine, and a LOVELY comfy riding position. The engine ROARS and does not scream, sounds lovely. I am so happy with it, it really is the kind of bike I was after.

It also has a really nice array of extras: rear hugger, scottoiler, datatagged, datatool 3 alarm, R&G bungs, rear seat cowl.

The dealership were nothing short of brilliant with their service, went well out of their way to accommodate my requests and sat around for hours drinking tea with me!

Top guys. Only thing I forgot was to ask them to setup my suspension which I regret as I'm not sure it's quite right at the moment.

I am light as a feather, so suspension is rarely right for me when I climb on a bike - the frontend was a bit light on my way home - any gust of wind was blowing me way way about the place. Is this me not being used to a bigger bike, the bad weather being really bad, or do I need to sort out the preload etc?

Yes, I went out of my way to get the black tank/framed version. It really is lovely. It's got a nice tinted dark screen as well just to top it off!

This one is one of the slightly remapped ones as far as I know but I can still tell it's a bit ballsed up! It has very little at 0-4k, and then at 4k, all hell breaks loose, especially in the lower gears. It's a bit crazy. I haven't even begun to touch 9k+ revs yet, it deafens me by that point and I pull back on the throttle! I expect it's scary though. I have generally, so far, been scared of the power this thing throws out (no sniggering, 1k riders).

I've learnt that it's easier to do slow moving riding in 2nd at 2kish revs instead of struggling in 1st at 3-4k revs, constantly nearly hitting the 'mad bit'.

You can yes. I'm not sure if it's a physical issue too though, with regards to cams etc. I think they even may have changed the cam profile in the later ones.

Once you get used to it (a 30 min test ride got me ok with it) it is really a non-issue. I think the magazines were doth protesting too much me thinks.

so yes, further to this, the clutch is perfect with it's action, and allows really nice gentle slippage when you need to (makes a change from GRAB YOUR bkS clutch on the Bandit I was riding), along with a supremely accurate gearbox, beautifully progressive but decisive rear brake, lovely sharp front brake and OH WHY IS IT NIGHT AND RAINING? I WANT TO RIDE IT!

Been out today for hours and hours. SO comfy. I am really getting to grips with the engine now and learning how to use it. It feels nice to have a bike which is really going to help me learn more riding skills - there's a lot in this bike that I couldn't get on the NC30 because of my size, so my foot position is much more natural and I can 'perch' on the rear brake & gear select as opposed to shuffling around just to reach them!

I love this bike and every little bit of it. Such responsive handling, so forgiving on cornering. SO nice. I love it.

Did I mention? I love it!
