Hi folks,

I have been running a post over in the Wedge enclosure trying to establish who has the most powerful normally aspirated 4.0 litre Rover V8 powered car.

http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...

This has proved to be an excellent source for my favourite hobby "Wedge Bating"

After a lot of cheating, the best genuine 4.0 litre Wedge currently weighs in at 255hp.

MegaSkirts & other after market ECU's are fine but no laughing gas, blowers or 4.6 litre cars with a 4.0 plenum badge please.

So come on, lets show the Wedgies who's boss.

NB: Early 4.0 litre Grifters are also welcome

Come on boys, we can do better than this.

The Wedgies are mocking us.

Sadly I only have 233hp myself, but surely there must me some top performing 4.0 litre Chimps out there to beat the Wedge best of 255?

Sorry to dissapoint you dave, but the wedgies came with more powerfull engines from the factory than the chims or griffs!, the very early 390 wedges that where built by nck where fitted with big valve heads/high compresion and a lot of them where fitted with 234 cams, later changing to 214 cams, a totally un molested early 390 was making around 270, they didnt drive very nice so they started pulling back on cams etc...., i know of a few 270-280bhp 4.0 chims that i built but dont know if they are ph'ers.
Thanks Rob, some interesting facts here, so a 270-280bhp potential from a 4.0 litre RV8 is a proven.

I can see more spending with you is on the horizon.

My original post over in Wedge land did say I had a feeling they would win out.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Lets face it they need a few extra ponies to pull their doors about, those bars inside make the Wedge doors weigh a ton.

TBH it was all just meant to be a bit of a laugh, I think most people got that & enjoyed it?

My 4.0 litre Gas Bag gave 260hp on petrol & 261hp on LPG.

However, clearly how much you can trust any rolling road is a subject for significant debate.

Probably a lot easier just to not go there.

I work on the basis it goes well enough for me, drives very nicely on either fuel & still makes me smile every time I take it out smile

If I need more it'll get a turbo, that way I'll be sure to feel the improvement wink

Anything else is just tickling around the edges.

here is a world of difference between the OP'ers/V8D spec and a stock 4.0 yes the heads alone must be worth 30+ hp scratchchin
^^^Agree^^^^

The fact I got mine up to the 250hp mark on standard heads is still a source of amazement to me yes

The Op's car must be a real flyer bow

ep thats a healthy 4.0 you have there Dave wink
Bottom line is its just a healthy 240hp car Simon as TVR quoted, but with the cats removed to bring it up to 250hp.

Unfortunately like most 4.0 litres it does suffer from standard heads which ultimately holds it back.

So I can't sleep for this going round my head........
