Ive just returned from York with a very dodgy clutch.

Just a little throttle and it spins up then seems to grip again about 3000 rpm. I guess if i had given it more throttle it would just spin all the way.
I guess its just had its day.

The pressure plate is from a 500 lb/ft ceramettalic kit i bought of John Eales 3 years ago. The original plate had worn the inner metal plate and was rattling and making awful noises so i aquired Neal1980's 500 lb/ft Helic plate (still owe you neal). This plate served me for a while and i ran my PB of 11.2 @ 127 with about 150 bhp of nitrous.

The easiest option would be to order a new plate from John Eales. Or do i need a more capable item?
McLeod maybe scratchchin
Problem is i only have the next 2 weekends to order the plate, drop the box and swap it. Big grudge race at Shakey with a certain Jensen Interceptor on 13th.

Yeah its hard to believe the the rather hot clutch let me run to 152 immediately after i cooked it.
I ran 158 in the sfternoon.
It didnt start slipping till this Saturday morning on the way to York. 3 drag strip runs finished it off on Saturday afternoon. I think 12.9 @ 110 on the Federals, no gas on a poor track and a goosed clutch is pretty good considering laugh

Richard I would love to get the RST but time and finance are both a problem. The John Eales one i had never let me down.... that is until it started munching the inner metal away.
Think i will just order another and get it fixed asap. Got to beat Tony.

Sorry for hijacking but what type, size Federals are you running and how are they ?
I have a set of RSRs on my SP12's. I got greedy and fitted 265/35/18 on the rear. I have modified the inner arches for the MTs so I have the clearance.
They seem ok. Very good in the dry but i have felt them let go a bit in the wet.
I ran a 2.05 to 60 foot on Saturday but believe they could do better on a better surface. Not as good as 888's but a very good alternative option at a fraction of the price IMHO

This is what I have from real steel
What other work is required Richard?
Flywheel to be redrilled and tapped?
Is the standard release bearing and carrier ok to use?

90% decided to order tomorrow morning from Techcraft. I spoke to Anthony today. A very informative and useful chat.

AP cover and plate.
The cover is a CP2394-46 rated to 522lb/ft and the plate is a sprung 6 paddle cerametallic CP4216-16.
They come in at about £420 inc vat but + delivery.

No drilling required and the standard release bearing is ok to use.

24 hour delivery and I should have the new clutch in and running by Saturday afternoon.

AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH

Absoulutely raging!

So i make an unplanned 331 mile trip home to do my clutch this weekend.
Ordered ab expensive 6 paddle AP kit from Techcraft and they guarenteed delivery by Friday.
I got home about 5pm to find a calling card from DPD.
Went online and paid another £12 to have it delivered today before 1pm.
It doesnt arrive so i check the tracking and its still at the depot in Preston.
Phoned the depot.... ' sorry mate the warehouse is in lockdown till monday now, we will give you a refund'

Fat lot of good that is.

Dont think they should of rated it at 500lbft really!!
Optimistic to say the least. Maybe capable of 500 lb on the move.
AP rate the paddle set up ive ordered as 522 minimum, so could take more.

I cant figure out when this happened. Kind of suspect on the latest gearbox removal.
Apart from the slip, all else seemed fine

ooohhh lovely...looks the same as mine.

Is this the clutch for 10's??
Yes why not.

De ja vu

Had run 11.24 with a 1.79 to 60 foot at York on luke warm MTs with about 130 bhp of nitrous.
I ran a 1.70 to 60 foot on properly warmed tyres at the pod but the engine let go with 1 pot weak.
So theoretically i was on for a 10 then.

I hope you are joking.
It will almoat be impossible with IRS and some serious rubber (drag slicke) will be needed.

I think i could get a pic with the front nearside off the ground tho.... some certain suspension settings and cunningly placed tie wraps might just do it wink

Hey i have never sold you a clutch? if i had there is not a chance i would have sold you one saying it was rated at 500ftlb, there is not a 9.5" organic plate on this planet that would hold that power, you would need a paddle, also why would i not think you would make 500ftlb, i have seen 700+ sorry bud but i am confused????
Sorry my mistake then I thought you were v8 developments thats who I bought the clutch from got my reciept here. Explained what I wanted it for totally in every detail..and this was recommended to me for 500lbft so I thought it would have some leeway above this.

Annoying was the fact I paid more than normal because they asked Helix to put some stronger springs in than that are normally supplied.

What company are you then v8 racing...maybe I should of seen you for my clutch smile
Hi Neal, well what do i say!!, i used to work for v8 developments as the grease monkey, cutting a long story short for several reasons i am now a partner since last christmas, one thing i cant handle in my work life is bad publicity, if people think i am a tt thats fine i can handle that, if people think i am the guy they want to be mates with thats fine too, but i hate bad publicity, one reason for becoming a partner is so i have more control over what is happening and what is going out the doors, there are several helix clutches we do rated from 350=500 ftlb, the clutch in this thread is only rated at 350, the fact it held out to 490 is amazes me, i truelly dont know what has happened and why you where given that clutch, but i am happy to componsate you, can you pm the invoice please and any corespondence with v8 and i will sort things out for you.

Regards Rob
Jesus loves you Rob biggrin

Hey Neal does this mean i get money back too. I was also mis-sold.
I reckon i put over 450 lb/ft through this plate when i ran my 11.2
Are you positive it wasnt an uprated item?

So the new clutch is in and the cars up and running.

First thoughts after a very short test drive.
Yes a little grabby and some judder on quite an early biting point but overall ok.
The pedal actually feels lighter than the last set up.

A 120 mile trip to York tomorrow should get it bedded in and my left leg trained.
Then its onto the strip on Sunday to try and break those racefailed driveshafts rolleyes

If they hold out and the angine behaves with 150 shot of nitrous i think there will be a run very close to the 10 club cool

And no LS........ yet.
That will be when i decide i want to run 9's
