I would be interested on thoughts and opinions on mapping our Rover V8s. It would be good to see other peoples AFR, fuel and ignition tables.

Ive finally took the plunge and started mapping my MS2 on the fly. I originally had it mapped by Dale at Bailey Performance who was excellent and the car drove perfectly. But i had to do a full engine rebuild late last year and used some diffenent parts. A fresh set of injectors probably being the main contributor to the car running rich.

So upto now ive got my cruise AFRs up into the high 14's nudging into 15's at anywhere from 75 to 90 between 2000 and 3000 rpm and ive richened up the very low throttle/ low rpm to almost eliminate shunting completely. I want to do full throttle next as its a little weak then moves a little rich. Maybe a good idea to let someone else drive while i tune it. Very happy with my results so far but i realize i am very early on the learning curve and am keeping all previous maps to step back to just in case.

I can see me coming back dar sarth in the Chim again next week.
Need to do some man maths to justify.

I only get 33 mpg out of the Mazda anyway. Ive had 27 mpg out of the TVR and with recent mapping and if i drive at 85 max i should achieve that again. Can then take the car to Peters for a map and play day next weekend.
Maybe i should also get that McLeod RST and fly ordered from Real Steel and get it fitted asap ahead of a rolling road shootout scratchchin

How much have you backed off advance on Nitrous map bloke?
The second Ignition map looks has 6 degrees taken out at everywhere above 85% throttle.
I will probably alter this too. Maybe keep 6 degree at activation (3-3.5k) then cut the retard down to just 2 degree at full rpm.

You're missing a whole world of economy in that ignition map db, and are you running lambda trimmed feedback with learning or just just trimming with no learning? If your ecu is learning you would benefit from changing the ms/bit and getting much better incremental resolution in the fuel map. at the moment you're limited to a smallest fuel change around idle of 5%, you could get a smallest change of 2% just by re-jigging your fuel numbers.
Lamdas arent used. Was mapped on the rollers and now on the move.
Can you explain further where you think i can make some improvements please.

I'm trying to use MS Lite v2.0.8 - EFI simplified but I can't open my last map in it.....

Ta,

R.
Mega Tune 2.25 p3 modified for MS2-Extra by ExtraEFI..... apparently.

Its what came with the laptop that Neal so kindly donated. Thanks again Neal wavey

However, I did notice that my table has much higher advance (low forties)than yours, in the cruise area between 1800 and 3000 RPM, which I assume is to improve fuel economy. I might tone this down slightly before driving again as I’m a bit nervous that this is too high.

I think this is the area spitfire4v8 was referring to on mine. I am going to add advance here and recheck AFRs and see how it goes.

Can you take a snapshot of your sparktable for me please to compare.

Just found a pic of Daz's ignition map that shows an obvious hike in advance in the low load cruise areas. We all know Daz gets about 40 mpg so maybe worth a little copying i think

Yep.
If its showing numbers at a given speed and throttle position that you aint happy with then its easy to fix whilst driving.

Will you be data logging Peter?

Derek, I've got my current map in a file, I'm just trying to work out how to load and display it... Once (if) it's done I'll give posting some of it a go smile
I just had it open in Mega tune on my car dedicated laptop and took a screen shot then trimmed it in Paint and saved as a Jpeg to a flashdrive, then put the flash in my works desktop and uploaded to photobucket then copied the IMG link. Simples

If fuel cut is enabled on the over-run AFR will run off the WB scale on closed throttle (providing you have it enabled of course) Derek why the fk are you using Megatune geezer? eek Tuner-Studio is where its at Derek either the Lite version or the paid for one which I highly recommend by the way biggrin for the money Phil Tobin charges for this software its a no brainer IMO see here http://tunerstudio.com/index.php/tuner-studio
Like i already said, its what the free laptop Neal gave me had on it.
Works ok for now.

I downloaded tuner studio the other night to my laptop but it doesnt have a serial output so i aint tried it yet. Also looks like it needs a lot of setting up.... or will it just take all the current settings from my ECU ??

Fair enough Derek just trying to help, you should be able to use your existing serial to USB interface for TS i could have done this for you at Peters if i had known frown

No worries. Ive copied the Tuner studio lite to my car laptop. Will upload the cars setting in the morning and take a look. Might get the full package at a later date. I am quite looking forward to the drive home tomorrow night. Will tell a story if nothing else.

Are you running MS with a wideband lambda, if so what happens when the lambda is cold and warming up, do you use some default in the tables untill the lambda starts giving sensible results.
I have a Techedge but its not connected to MS at the moment. Cant think why not. Its something i need to do i think. At least for datalogging

I just got back home after a 331 mile drive in just over 4 and a half hours. The first 200 miles was done in under 3 hours and i tanked up with just 31.5 litres that equals 28.8 mpg. I must have done something right with the recent mapping. Happy as

Cruising was good in the high 14's and sometimes low 15's
Just a little acceleration at between 2000 and 3000 rpm saw 11's and 10's so thats why i need to weaken it off a bit. I will be happy to see 12.5 at the least
