In this months Sprint is an article about sombody's Chimaera that they have modified cosmetically to achieve their dream car.

The article goes into detail about much of the conversion - but it dodn't mention the thing that actually interested me most, as the owner appeared to have done something that I have been thinking about myself.

I could be wrong, but if you look at the roofline above the rear screen, you'll notice that the rear pram hood doesn't appear to have the "angle" created by the rear edge of the fibreglass hoop as the material bends down - it appears to have been shaved slightly to give a more rounded curve more like the Tamora.

I have been thinking about shaving the rear edge of the hoop to give a similar effect - but just wondered if the owner is on here (or anybody knows him) - could he give any details about how this was achieved, as it looks utterly professional, giving a curved silhouette much more like the Cerbera, much more in keeping with the curves of the body...

Is the owner on Pistonheads..?

Thanks,

Dom

Not a hardtop - Echidna has a newly re-covered roof according to the text.

It just looks to my eyes like the hard edge at the back of the hoop has been shaved/smoothed into a curve - I could be wrong, but seems very curved.

Thinking of doing something along those lines to curve the rear roofline - the hard edge doesn't suit the lines of the car for me.

Wondered of the owner had done this, and if so, whether he had any advice...

To the OP - apologies for the late response but I was blissfully unaware hat this conversation existed until today and have joined PH to respond to you...

I didn't actually have the roof shaped specifically but the new roof that I had fitted certainly seemed to look like it was more curved. The original fittings were used for the roof.

Anyway, if you wanted to have further pictures to help your investigation of this I am happy to supply as it may be the paint lines have changed since the full respray, but given the time I can't remember tbh!
I clicked on this thread, thinking it looked like am interesting title - only to realise it was me that had started it originally! laugh

Interesting about the OEM piece - haven't seen any other cars with curved rooves, hence why I posted the topic. Wonder if it's simply the angle the photo was taken, but it really does seem smoothly curved, and looks so much better for it IMO.

The curved roofline of the Cerb just got it *right* IMO, and looks so much better than the slightly triangular nature of the Chims roof - when it comes to replacing my hood I will be either looking at Steve Edwards wonderful split-Malaysian hardtop or if funds don't permit, seeing if I can shape the hoop to produce a curved profile like yours...

...the side vents are not something I would expect to see on a TVR, but maybe this is what makes the roof line look different !!
No - the roofline simply looks very rounded at the back, more like a BMW Z3 roof or something. Most Chims seem top have a hard "edge" where the material folds down at the back of the hoop, but this appears distinctly different to the point where it has to be either a different item or a photographic "effect"...

Many thanks for taking the time to come here and post... smile
