Hi all , considering having a power upgrade to my mk3 450 Chim. Suspension and brakes already upgraded so now want more power. There seems to be plenty of DIY kits available but not knowing one end of a spanner from the other want a one shop stop installation.

Can anyone recommend where this can be done and costs please . Or do I just by a Tuscan 2s ?.

Have you considered Turbo? whistle

Yeah but have concerns over reliability and power delivery , I'm from the days of Turbo's old had a 5gt and a 21 Turbo . Haven't driven a turbo charged RV8 just worried it would change it's characteristics .

The SC Power kit http://tvrengineer.co.uk/tvr-upgrades/super-charge... is probably the most popular + well tested having plenty of cars that have done 10,000's of miles without problems. My word of warning is that there are a number of names (if I mentioned) which would get me banned - that supposedly have a good name but have made absolutely f*cking cock ups of doing Blower installs, and have had the owners banned (we all know who) for talking about it.

One simple thing - there is no such thing as doing this on the cheap (unless your good with spanners like many on here, me not included!) - as others have discovered it costs 10x more in long run unless it's done properly from the beginning.

I am clearly biased but my Dad who now does only bespoke work if your prepared to pay will do the highest quality fit you could want. See http://tvrengineer.co.uk/customer-work/orange-4-0-... - and is someone who SC Power recommend (and is only person also who does the pre-serp install)

Price is difficult to answer - as so many questions on what you want to have done, i.e. do you want the intercooler, work off dizzy or fit new ECU. And in the end how much power you actually want extra.
How much power now that's a question , guess I'm hoping for 350ish from phase 1 ;-) , really depends on cost . If it's gonna be daft think I would rather sell up and put my money into something naturally quicker , trying to get the feeling back from my old 500 that would spin the wheels in 3rd and scare the live out of me !

I honestly believe it can be done properly as a DIY project, but I appreciate you point about skill with the spanners. I'm no expert but average as an enthusiastic amateur and have managed the installation on my '98 450 but learnt a hell of a lot along the way. The biggest drain for me was the time I took to make sure everything was right, I don't believe it can be done properly (full package incl. intercooler, larger injectors etc. as a DIY job in less than 50 hours, only quicker if it's not the first time.

Lloyds Specialist Developments are held in high regard by many although I've no experience of them myself.

Engineer John is a genuinely nice bloke who certainly knows his trade (well he's been doing it long enough !).

Before starting any upgrade it's imperative to establish the health of you current engine, a leak down test is a must, a rolling road session is also useful if only to establish your baseline.

If you do decide to try yourself I'm more than happy to help as much as I can. The results are well worth it, I went from 275 bhp at flywheel to 425 (even with a little drive belt slip !) now corrected I should see 425 ish.

I do hope you realise that you may well have re-opened a huge can of worms, on this forum at least !!!

Good Luck
Couldn't and wouldn't ever do this myself ! Need an established to do it for me ;-)
