Hi,

I'm not selling it, but I do need a proper valuation. Perhaps you guys can give me an idea please?

1997 Chimaera 400 – mk2 front end, later style boot lid, old style rear lights
65,000 miles
Full service history from specialists from new with every receipt, invoice, fully stamped service book and handbook
2010 had new outriggers and the chassis repainted in POR15. Chassis painted again in 2014
2014 had new cam, waterpump coolant hoses, induction hoses, PAS hoses, sump gasket, valley gasket, trumpets and painted/dressed engine bay
Recently had a 12k major service
Paintwork in very good condition. Original Porsche Iris Blue
Magnolia leather interior in very good condition
Heated seats
PAS
New wooden dashboard with original TVR dials
New rear screen (roof is a little tatty though)
Everything in good working order – touches wood!

Probably lots of other things I’ve missed too!

Thanks,

It depends what the valuation is for. If it's for insurance purposes, then a bunch of opinions from (well informed) PH'ers won't carry any weight with the insurers. In such a case it will need to come from a recognised TVR specialist. This will mean an inspection and a fee. Most insurers then want photos, which you already have.

The valuation you are looking for is then for the purpose of replacing your car with a similar condition vehicle in the event of a total loss. If you consider dealer prices then these will be considerably higher than private sales and so the higher valuation is what you want. This is then an 'agreed value' valuation for your insurance policy.

If it's to test the water for the possible sale of the car (and I can't think af any other reasons why you would want or need a valuation) then your mates on PH will give you all the conflicting advice and help you don't need. It will become as clear as mud. Take your pick really... smile

Nice looking car, by the way. The best combination and fastest colour too! smile

hehe

Thanks!

It's all being kept a little quiet at the moment, but essentially what I'm doing is selling half the car to my brother and we're buying another car together. So we'll each own half of two cars basically. The other car is a Caterham driving

All will become clear at a later date...

Mine is a very tidy July 97 with 53,000 very clean interior and also is the face lift version(Grill, boot, door release under mirror) wood surround unmarked and original not had outrigger chassis replacement as yet and a MOT concluded one advisory only of a rear tyre.

I have just switched insurance to Classicline and they wanted me to get a written valuation and provide pictures.

My car was having it's MOT carried out by a specialist David Gerrald on the 1st July and gave the car a good look over and a written valuation of £11,500.

I then sent this along with many pictures to Classicline who have now given an agreed valuation of £12,000.

Mine is not for sale but with these written valuations and in the case of selling private i would probably market at £10,500.

Very useful. Thanks a lot.

Hi Dan how are we? Really enjoyed the weekend on the isle of wight.

Having seen your car close up, its a very nice Chimaera and easy worth 11k to 12k.

Best thing is to calculate what you purchased it for, what you have spent improving and renewing certain things, but don't include standard service costs, and then you will have a realistic figure of what the car owes you.

As your "selling" half to your brother, I think a nice figure of 10k would be about right.

As stated earlier, I think your car is worth more, but family and all that!

A half share is a good idea, and as the value of Tivs can only rise, you should both be happy with any future value.

My Chimaera was inspected by TrackvRoad at Clitheroe for insurance purposes, and given a value of 12k.
Hi Tom,

I'm very good thanks. Busy at work, but can't complain. Still missing the fun of the IOW, can't wait for next year!

I actually got the car for a very good price, but I've spent a fair bit on the engine (cam, hoses and various other bits - forgot to mention it's got a new AP Racing clutch too).

What you say makes sense and the figure you mention is probably what we'll go with. It leaves a nice budget to buy a Caterham!
