Picked up my new (and first) Chim last night and I am already smitten.

Its a 1997 (serpertine and newer gearbox) 450 Estoril Blue with cream interior.

Dashboard is a little cracked (already have a Levin dash at home waiting to go in), bonnet is very swirl marked and the front end needs a respray but it is just fantastic.

71,000 miles, and always looked after by specialists.

Outriggers done end of 2012!

Car seems to surge just a little but when on very gentle throttle at about 1300/1400 RPM but that could just be me not used to the throttle yet!

Doesn't seem to have had the cam changed in its life but all seems good so far!

My only real complaint is that there is no interior light (which sounds daft but I am often getting in and out of the thing during dark hours). Other than that I might even class it as perfect (to me anyway). Look forward to seeing some of you around soon no doubt!

so where has the light gone... you should have 2 ... one in the hoop bit and one under the glove box...
welcome anyway... I'm sure you'll have fun smile
Thats odd! When should they come on, when the door is opened?

Just the one. But mine's permanently turned off. I've left it on by accident in several cars in the past and flattened a battery or three. Anyway, it's a chimaera, who wants to drive one when it's dark? cool
Perhaps mine is turned off as well!

Me, I want to drive it in the dark, in fact, I want to drive it all the time.

In a way I hope that want lowers slightly over time, else I can see myself racking up some crazy mileage!

Mine are turned off as well for the same reasons. frown
Do they not come on and off with the doors? Is it more of an on or off switch then?

OK, here are your orders for maximum enjoyment.

Cancel all other plans for this coming weekend and get yourself, the car, SWMBO if you have acquired one , and your camera over to Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxford on Bank Holiday Monday, I think it opens around 10.00 until 4.00

It's the annual Chimfest, S Club Heaven, and Speed Six meeting. Last year Chimfest and SCH attracted 153 cars when it was in north Notts.
In April the TVRCC Spring gathering at Burleigh House, Lincs, attracted 640 cars.
My guess is that this one will attract 300+ cars.
Don't worry about the state of your paintwork, just get y'ass down there and meet lots of other owners and have a shuftie at their cars.
Try not to trip over your tongue.......

That sounds like a plan. I have another car related activity to partake in in the early hours of the morning, but should be able to make it afterwards. Do I need a ticket or anything?

I have alreay found the 'lock the doors from inside button', fortunately while just playing around with the controls.

I also have discovered the conviniently located near your knee light on and off switch!

I had a brief moment of panic yesterday when it wouldn't start at the petrol station after filling up, but a quick click on the remote/immobiliser and away went the fuel pump and she fired right up!

There is light!

So as many of you had said, there is indeed a light in the hoop. It has three positions. I didn't get round to seeing what happened in each of the three, although its pretty clear one will be on, the other will be off, and the thrid will be on with doors!

My alarm was playing silly buggers last night while I was playing Poker at the Pub. I think I must have either unlocked it and not disabled the immobiliser while my buddies had a gander inside, or I must not of properly shut of the doors. Either way after the 3rd or 4th time of it going off (despite me locking and unlocking it at least once), during the poker break I took it for a quick spin up and down the road then parked up again. Opened and closed both doors and the boot and locked it. It was fine after that!

If your car has an aftermarket alarm, it may have been connected to the interior light circuit as a shortcut, but disconnecting the light in the process, because if you turn the light manually you would set the alarm off.
Does the interior central locking button work ? That,s another shortcut for a new alarm.
The wiring on these cars can be quite difficult to fathom unless they are one of the few experts that are about.
Mine has the 'Meta' (I think thats what it is called) immobilser upgrade and fob. It unlocks from the button on the fob or from the button inside fine.

I did find the light yesterday and it looked to be in an off position. I didn't bother playing with it Yesterday as I was in a bit of a rush, but I will have a look this evening when I fit some of my new Levin goodies!

A question for you TVR gurus.

Filling the car up for the 2nd time (since I bought it on Tuesday!) and I noticed almost immediately that the fuel was overflowing back out the top. I stopped, cleaned the petrol off, tried to adjust the filler and just went with a slower trigger speed.

Either I am an incape (perfectly plausible) or there is a knack as to where to position the nozzle. I don't recall having the issue the first time I filled. Unless maybe it was a slower pump last time. Last night, try as I might, I could not find a position where I could pump at full speed without spilling (ohhhh Matron).

Thanks

Anton
