Well the old girl's been in to Lloyds for heart surgery ... I let them recommend a new cam as she was well down on power with quite a pronounced ticking between 2-3k rpm and - as there was no indication in the receipts that the cam had been done - *AND* she's done about 130,000 miles I assumed that the cam was probably fooked.

They phoned me to say that the cam wasn't as worn as expected - and that it was a Piper 270i in there so it must have been done previously - anyway ... a Kent 214 has now gone in there instead (they had everything stripped apart so it seemed daft not to) but that they'd given her a endoscopy and the main cat was knackered. Probably the intermittent issues that had plagued her when I first got her before I had the ECU and engine harness replaced which had left the entire cat bucket glowing cherry red on many occasions had taken their toll ...

Anyway... Main cat is now out and in a million pieces in the bin ... no precats and no silencers and only a couple of fabricated cones in the main cat bucket to make up for the missing cat - apparently she's 'f*ck*ng loud'!

Passed an MOT with no cats (and without the use of a surrogate exhaust) with the only advisories being excessive wear to the inside of one front tyre and - erm - noise! hehe

Been driving around in a 62 plate Nissan Micra Automatic for the last week so you can understand I'm looking forward to having her back tomorrow afternoon (the Micra belongs to a friend and is 2 years old and had 257 miles on it when I picked it up to borrow it - still on its first tank of fuel from new!!!) .... hefty old bill £1k for the cam and change, £300 for opening up the cat, knocking out the innards and welding it up again, various other odds and sods which after the Very Annoying TAX came to just over £2k but hopefully she'll be dancing again now that she can breathe again... smile

As a matter of interest why bother to do that when you could have had the ACT stainless de-cat Y piece for £318?
Because I needed it doing quickly (really, there and then) as the MOT was booked and there's a week or so turnaround on the ACT clamp y-pieces ... I *MAY* change it for an ACT one or for one of Clives at some point in the future but I'd probably even look at the ACT performance manifolds setup at some point in the future as I don't like the V-Clamp arrangement ... I've had soooooo many leaks!

Alex just let me have it as he said he wasn't going to use it and I need to replace mine as there's a lot of play in it - it was picked up on the MOT too...

I've broken her again... hehe

Was turning the old girl round, she stalled and that was it - turn her over and she'd fire but not run ... can't hear the fuel pump at all so I reckon the pumps died. frown

Not too bad so far ... could be pump or could just be fuse (more likely to be pump tho).

However she no longer turns over either ... not even a click from the solenoid ... so I *GUESS* I may have killed the starter too as the battery seems good and doesn't even turn over if I try to jump her. BUGGER! grumpy

Phil, those symptoms are screaming "immobiliser" at me. Have you done the simple thing of locking and unlocking it to see if it cures it?
Many times... wink

Check the two relays to the fuel pump, near battery!
My battery is in the boot and those two relays were binned three years ago along with the old loom and ECU when the CANEMS went in ...

Check 100 amp fuse smile
Replaced only a few weeks ago but is on the checklist for when I can get to her in daylight. Thanks. :-)

Check earths, du you have a hotstart relay?
Nah ... I know that my hot start issue is *DEFINITELY* the starter motor itself. biggrin

Thanks for the suggestions tho. biggrin
