ARRGGGHHHH outbid twice in 2 weeks on estorils
Discussion
I had looked at previous sales price and had bid what i thought was enough to win them (backed up by the £550 comment below) must be popular time of year to be selling hence the price jumps as people sell cars at the end of the summer perhaps?
the second set needed at least one new centre and four new caps which with paint of the cap would have made it even more expensive, hard to follow ebay prices at times lol

But isn't that what you should do with any ebay bid? I've never seen the point of auction sniping software. If you make a normal ebay bid of the maximum amount that you're prepared to pay, the auction doesn't jump up to that level immediately; it jumps up to a level just high enough to beat anyone else's highest bid so far. And then if someone else makes a higher bid, but still not as high as your maximum bid, your bid will trump theirs and the auction will end up just higher than their maximum - but still not yet up to your own maximum.
And none of this requires you to be actively online - it's just the way ebay auctions work.
So all you need to do is make a single bid of the maximum amount you're prepared to pay, then walk away. If other people push the bidding up to a level that's still below your maximum then you'll win for an amount just greater than anyone else's maximum bid; if they exceed your maximum then they'll win. Simple, surely?
I suspect its also about showing your hand though, if you put a max bid of say up to £200 and are leading for the last two days and its sitting at £175 you would be cautious you could get outbid in the last x second and miss out for only a few pence more without the option to bid back due to lack of time, you could increase your max bid, but where does that stop could be a few pounds more many times over hehe. And none of this requires you to be actively online - it's just the way ebay auctions work.

Reality in my example was I was outbid just over my max bid (whether sniped or not) so someone was just prepared to pay more, there own limit could have gone even further as it would only bid what was needed to beat me.
the thing that never ceases to amaze me on ebay is quite how much some people are prepared to pay.
let me give you an example, i noticed (whilst looking for trevors tyres) that there was a set of BF goodrich AT for my l200 also on ebay, unknown age, in some shed in kent. i watched them, they sold for £675 and you had to go and collect, thats a small saving of about £20-£30 on most tyre places buying brand new, however at tyreleader.co.uk i bought 4 brand new delivered to my door for £515....
