Hi all, I have just bought a pair of the odyssey 11 seats and was wondering on how low they sit on runners? and difficulty in fitting?
There was a post a little while ago and Daz was rightly bigging up these seats, but there were no difinitive answers. I know there are at least a couple of us on here with these seats now.
I don't mind a bit of retro fitting and making up spacers to lift the seats etc, but just wanted a bit of a heads up as to how long my night is going to be and how full the swear box will be.
(although how hard can it be fitting a pair of seats!!!!!)
Many thanks in advance
Jamie

I am waiting with baited breath for them to arrive smile
Richards are very nice and the logo as a pleasant surprise when i saw it wink , We have gone for the 'everyday' TVR logo, on Magnolia with the dark blue piping and dark blue stitching
I will post up my install, and hopefully it will make sense.

Excellent work dear sir!, Ours are arriving tomorrow and I will be fitting them on Thursday night smile
I may have to raise ours a little then, as I am a little shorter than you (5'6" and inside leg of only 30")
so the Intatrim runners may work for me.
That looks a lovely colour and as I said before your choice if logo was very clever.
How was it for comfort up to the NEC and any pointers or 'watch out for...' things?
Cheers, Jamie

Thanks Jamie, Unless you're very skilled and a bit lucky I think you'll struggle fitting them both in one evening, however that's just using my fists of ham as a gauge ! The Odyssey II seats are narrower at the underside base than the standard seat so I think you'll have to make up some sort of bracket to space the runners if you want to use the existing mounting holes in the floor. I've deliberately steered away from drilling new holes in the floor as I didn't want to affect the integrity of what strength there is as new holes would be fairly close to the originals. I may just be a bit too "belt & braces" but I've added some ally strip to the seat base to provide better load spread than just using repair washers. I'm removing my seat tomorrow to make height adjustments so I'll take some photos & post them tomorrow to show how I've mounted it, I'll also fit the passenger side once I'm happy with the drivers side and use it as a pattern.
even though the height & rake were wrong for me on Sunday (and I kept the roof on) I felt that the seats were very comfortable for me and am very pleased with them.
Good luck with yours, and remember - post some pics !
Cheers mate smile I was thinking about using the original holes and making a bracket/sandwich piece to fit onto the runners to raise the seats slightly, and as you say, spread the load also make some shimming pieces to fine adjust the height and angles Glad you find them comfy as we have bought them fairly blind and going on what we have managed to read about them.
I hope I can get a wriggle on with them as I finish work at midnight and will be carrying on with the fitting, and saying that I managed to work out how to get the car on our van lifts, measure and cut away my outriggers, make them from scratch and half fit them by 5;30am so how hard can a pair of seats be.......... wink
I will take some before, during and after pics to show the transformation, to be fair, I could probably paint and fit a milk crate and make an improvement, but i will let you be the judge on that. I am pleased you feel you made the right choice and good luck with finishing touches

Thanks Jamie, didn't mean to underestimate your level of skill, and a lift does help, I certainly wish i had one !! Good Luck and I'll look forward to the pics.
No Problem, I am the biggest doubter of them all, and as far as lifts go, you don't want to use this one, but I am spoilt a little as we have 2 pits and 2 sets of lifts (even if you struggle to get a low car on them!).
The only thing I wished we had is a valeting bay, especially at this time of year.
What other plans do you have for your car, the S/C install looks great and very well thought out and a super finish.
I keep nagging Shelly about the S/C, although it has had a different, but good effect on her, she said 'what about getting a Tuscan or a Cerbera?' thumbup
Good luck and pics to follow smile

Whatever Daz, why don't you actually buy some of the seats you rave about so much and see for yourself ? The point is they don't simply fit straight in if you want to use the existing holes in the floor. Plus I don't have a welder and just do the best I can with what I have.

Get something fabricated ,it is a kit car you know ! I would not expect them to fit, it is a completely different seat.
I think its a case of the floor has supported before and still will, I did think of making and fitting the seat plates but there were 2 trains of thought, the first being, my seats are mounted on the wrong coregated side of the fiberglass so it would need spacers/packing pieces to stop it damaging the floor, and the second, our car has been through the mill (and the hedge), and despite a few faults the floor has held up with no cracking or splitting, which makes me believe that it will be ok. But its horses for coarses, Some will want the extra support and others decide not, and as you say its a kit car and people do what they want with what they have smile
So are you going to invest then Daz?.... You know you want to wink

Any update on your seat installation Jamie ?
Hi Mate, Unfortunately no pics of the install (phone was dead at work), I Have got them in after having to fit the Drivers seat 3 times!!!, and even then its only temp as I want to make sure its the right angles before welding spacers to the made up frame work.
I used the existing holes by making up 2 plates, and welding pieces on to that for the correct spacing for the intatrim runners, so really that was quite easy, you would think, trying to raise lower was harder than i thought it would ever be, I drove home on friday morning only just able to reach the pedals, and if I leaned back into the seat i would be looking at the roof, so back to it Friday night/Sat morning, made up some blocks of wood and test fit, too high, remove thinner block too low, just, fettled about and got it about right, made metal spacer pieces and bolt the seat domn as well as extending the frame to bring it nearer the pedals rolleyes and job done. drove it to Southampton Yesterday and relly comfy but feels very different, the car feels a lot firmer.
Just one question for you... do you find that there is a lot of flex in the seats? I realise that there will be some but it all seems to flex on the base, and how close to the roof stays are yours, they are fairly close.
I will take some pics when I can and will post them up.

Cheers mate, I think i could have had them finished But... My imobiliser fob decided that it did not want to disarm the car, so every time i moved the alarm was sounding, I hunted high and low for the fault and it was the fob itself, I just disconnected the battery and got on with it. So your seats are rigid!, I may have to check a bit harder but when all was tight the side supports flex and on base/back too frown perhaps a call to Alison is in order.
they do bring the interior into the 'sports car' section and modernise the look i think.

Jamie, I wouldn't go as far as to say "rigid" but they don't feel like they're flexing too much but I need to do a few more miles with some "spirited" driving to test fully however I assume fibreglass would flex to a degree, as the body of the car itself does but maybe the bracing I have added does make some difference. I agree with the more sports car look but without being too modern, more in keeping with a racing seat of the correct era IMHO.
Thats a fair comment about the era, Maybe with the 'movement' i am being critical as steel frame seats don't move at all. but I am over the moon with them and really pleased with the colour and trim

Cheers mate smile Headroom has never been an issue for me!, I have had to raise the back of the drivers seat to reduce the back rest angle, as I don't like laying down. When I first put them in, I had too much leg room and could not reach the pedals, now I have shifted it forwards, the car has changed its personality completely, the old seats were absorbing so much information and was a little too far back, now I can comfortably press the throttle and see over the bonnet, the car feels so alive. I am glad I added a little extra foam for Shelly's seat, as the base is a lot harder than the standard seat, not that these are not comfy, it just adds that little bit extra for the passenger. I am getting used to the side bolsters as I have to slide the seat back to get in and out, and I land on the seat base hard as I am used to falling into the old one!, but they are so supportive, although as I have mentioned there is a little bit of movement as the fiberglass flexes.
In the whole, we are really pleased with them.
