Well, after almost a year of ownership and 5000 miles I can confirm that this is utter codswallop.

I must admit i thought i was letting myself in for a lot of grief, buying a TVR on the lower end of the market, and there were many people who gave me the 'are you serious?' look when i told them before proceeding to tell me all the usual stuff you hear from people. And without any real mechanical know-how i was a bit worried, but i thought what the heck, i'm going to find out for myself.

And since i've had my car I haven't had any major issues - the only real niggle was a power drain which was sorted out (faulty interior light relay). But my mate had a similar issue with his e46 Beemer. I haven't been left by the side of the road with a breakdown, unlike my other friend with a 911. I've been to the lake district, all around that area and back, as well as various other journeys, including a nice trip to goodwood revival with no issues and the Chim has just passed it's MOT with no advisaries, so all in all from first hand experience i totally dismiss the rubbish you hear thrown about concerning TVR's. So there!

the word "not" would have been a good thing for the post title!
I was paraphrasing the general view of them.

By September 2014 I hadn't driven my fifteen year old car for two years. It had stood on the drive, where it has stood for almost 10 years in all weathers. I decided I'd take it for a little drive...

I drove it on to a trailer and delivered it to Ian Lambert at TorqueRVT in Middlewich, with a brief to give it a major service, some new tyres and a fresh MoT. On Thursday 11 September I caught a train to Crewe where Ian picked me up at 8pm. Bills paid, receipts/MoT certificate issued, I was on the road to London at 9pm. I figured if there were going to be any issues relating to it not being used for so long, they'd manifest themselves during the 150-mile drive.

On Friday 12 September I drove the car to Portsmouth and boarded the midnight ferry to Le Havre. By teatime the following day I was in Biarritz. After an early start on the Sunday I arrived in Alicante, southern Spain, by teatime where the ambient temperature was 31°C.

After two weeks of arsing about in the sun I made the return journey over two days, one day covering 743 miles. The car performed flawlessly, as it has always done. You can guess what I think of the notion that TVRs are unreliable......

Fantastic to hear that

Well...I've had my first breakdown now. I blame myself for starting this topic. Suspect it's the driveshaft.

Engine revs rise then a clunkety cluck to a stop?
After a sharp turn I was pulling away hear a metallic clunk and then no power. So not hundred percent sure what it is, could be diff? Garage opens tomorrow hopefully, it's normally aspirated.

Driveshaft or exploding diff.

My Disco one after some aggressive off roading with lots of wheelspin!

Yeah that's what I had narrowed it down to. I'll have to wait and see what extent the damage is
