Does anyone know what size, type and grade of pipe is used for the outriggers ?
Also does anyone have dimensions ?
I'll soon be doing mine and I have the use of 2 and 4 poster ramps and an expert welder and if I could get my hands on the materials first it would move the job along much quicker and get me back on the road and behind the wheel.

Or am I just as well buying these ?

Thank you fellow Chimmers.

OD 38 mm
wall thickness 2mm
plates 3mm

Or something like this

And this

Thank you Barreti smile

Do you know what length is required to complete the job ?
Would there be any advantage in using stainless steel instead of mild ?

This is why this is the best forum. I ask if anyone has done it and within 24 hours I now have a full set of instructions to do the job.

Thank you for the advice and pictures, I was nervous about doing my own but now I know it can be done without paying a small fortune. smile

Thank you Magpies smile YHM
And to Disco, to save all the tears that would soon follow I think I'll leave the welding to the experts wink my entire welding knowledge and experience comes from patching an exhaust on an old mk2 XR2 I had many years ago.

Read, re-read and read again just to make sure it stays in smile
I've also found this to read http://autogasp.com/documents/TVRChimaeraBodyLiftC...
I'm currently thinking body off resto so this will be my biggest car project I've done to date but with the help from some very skilled mechanics, all you guys on here and a steady supply of coffee and biscuits I think I might just enjoy this biggrin
Not sure when it'll begin but I'm sure I'll bore you all with pictures before it ends.

Thanks again and if anyone thinks of anything else that might help then please do share and school me wink

Colin.

Of course I'll need my friendly neighbourhood mechanic, Mr. Expert Welder and as many hands willing to help but this is the shopping list so far,

1) 10 meters of 1 1/2" x 14 swg Mild Steel Seamless Tube
2) 5 meters of inner tube (try various for tight fit)
3) 3mm sheet steel (not sure how much I need yet)
4) Food bags
5) Permanent marker
6) ?
7) ?
8) ?

Current thought is full body off but this is dependant on continued space avalible in my mates workshop, which I'm sure isn't a problem and what we find once it's on the ramp. I plan on keeping this car for a while yet so it's restore, replace or upgrade as we go and once done it's just sit back and enjoy with peace of mind.

My car is a 1993 and from reading through the comprihensive service history I have on the car I can't see any mention of any chassis work being done other than protection through the years so it will be body off to be sure everything that needs done will be done.

Another good read giving me knowledge and confidence in what I'm about to do.

And you're 100% right Portzi, an old car with known issues with the chassis deserves to be done properly. I'm sure there are chimaeras out there with a lick of paint hiding many sins until they get sold onto someone with the care and passion many of us have.

I had no idea either way but John (Engineer1949) had recommended that size and grade.
