After enjoying a good run this afternoon spoiled only by the play in that damm TVR P/S rack!

It was bearable when I bought the car at 32K but only 8K later it's become unbearably worse, about 15-20mm at the rim of the steering wheel.

It has new universal joints and all the adjustment taken up.

Track day looming on Wednesday so at 6pm today I thought, it's gotta go!

90 mins later it's on the bench. Checking it against my old P/S rack that I have in stock smile it has at least twice the play of my old one.

Tomorrow morning it's going in.

Coincidentally I bought a Subaru rack today for the future conversion but as that is a long winded affair, I can't wait.

Roll on Midday tomorrow, should all be finished and ready for a spin.

Now where's that Gin and Tonic wink

Hmmm, well the TVR rack is being fitted In the morning and it looks like the scooby do rack is following in the near future.

I'm certainly interested in alternatives but suspect the Subaru conversion is the most cost effective and possibly long term reliable.

My old PS rack now in and tested.

Only about 6mm of play at the outer edge of the steering wheel.

That will do till I get the scooby kit of parts together.

But, will it help with your steering getmecoat
No but what I've been fiddling with this afternoon will.

I stripped off the track rods off the newly acquired scooby rack and behold, they are the same thread as the tivs, result.

The scooby rack bar, (the big chrome slidey thing that moves left and right that the track rods screw in to) is exactly the same width as the tiv one, result again.

The rack mounts to the chassis points as the tiv one does but requires 4 x 22.5mm spacers.

I need to turn the spindle housing around 180 degrees on the scooby rack, 2 bolt two minute job.

Personally I will take the rack and electric pump, ( in my case) to Pirteks for them to make up the flow and return pipes, all for an easy life.

The only bit of engineering required is to machine a different spline on th the scooby input shaft unless someone can inform me of a simpler solution using the scooby splined spindle????

Once that bit is sorted, I can source the correct lower UJ and adapt/renew the double splined spindle that joins the two UJs together.

Simple.

No point. There are no spare parts, seals yes, parts no.

I went down this road a few years ago, even Powers specialist sent my rack back as unrepairable.

There is a company that refurb the original racks. I sent mine there last Summer and they upgraded it too by modifying one of the seals with ceramics. I can dig out their details if you like.
