So it begins (again).

Today i picked up the block and new parts to start the build. A forged internal 5.0

New balanced 86.3mm stroke crank

New I beam Chevy 6" rods

New custom 96mm forged pistons

New liner and rebore to 96mm

Now to put it together, hopefully in the right order.

Spring locks. The first one took ages then i got the nack and the others went in fairly easy.
Making sure the pistons point forward and the rods have the chamfers to the outside.

Done.

Is a similar spec as mine ?

Out of interest what does a self build to that spec cost ?
Yes it wouldn't suprise me if yours was very similar Daz.

I think i got a fair deal overall from Roland at ACR.
Block work, crank, rods, pistons, bearings and seals £2800.

Paul answered my email and said he would sort it out on Monday. By that i assume he means sending me a fresh set.

I got bigger problems however. The new crank is sticking at less than 70lb on the main ARPs and i see a crack in the thin metal behind the bottom of the replaced top hat liner. I am waiting on Roland to get back to me.

In the meantime i m trying to figure out how to set up my dial gauge to check the crank for any run out.
I think it will have to go back to ACR for a line bore maybe.

I had no issues with the studs at 80lb on the old crank.
There is something not right and it needs checking properly.

I am getting 6 thou run out on the centre journal.
Roland at ACR tells me this is within limits for a heat treated crank.

I am not sure i am comfortable with it.

After a chat with Roland i have refitted the crank following his procedure and tightening the side bolts in step with the mains. All seems fine now, turning over nice and smooth by hand.

4 in. 4 to go.

I threw the ring compressor in the bin, much easier by hand.

Last pic this weekend.

Next Friday will be timing the cam in, fitting the heads and checking valve clearance then hopefully getting the engine back in the car
