Im likely to scratch my first tvr itch after a few too many german cars but before i take the plunge is there anyone out there that can give me a little spin and walk through the trials and tribulations of ownership???

Would 8k get me something reasonable without landing me too many big bills to start off with? Should i assume that chassis / outriggers etc will always be knackered so to focus only on those that have had work done, recently treated etc?

budget wise im quite fixed so cant stretch to the cerb unfortunately (and not sure if it would fit in garage either!)

the vendor is not an enthusiast per se. he does say the carpets need replacing and that the chassis and outriggers are ok save for surface rust but id need to see pics

Great to see that the tvr fraternity is very keen and supportive.

Ive read the book referred to as the bible it has some great pointers. I'm hoping to see a couple of local tvr owners too.

I'm going to join the tvr club too it looks like a great bunch of folks and some great information on their website

The car will be used for casual weekend miles fair weather only!

Is itnworth holding out for a 1996 or later car and is their an assumed premium? I'm also not sure about the hc derivative other than a bit more horsepower?

What I am saying is there are lovely cars out there, just go and look at loads, take people along with you who know the cars to help you with the decision, and buy from PHers or TVRCC members if at all possible. I bought the first one I saw three years ago, from a dealer, and it has cost me thousands to get it anywhere near right mechanically - and I now need to spend thousands more dealing with the chassis and cosmetics. I wish mine had been like the one I described above.

Also, do have a think about what you want to do with the car before you buy. I knew I wanted a track day car, so I should have bought a car already prepared for that, ie a bigger engined or supercharged version, already prepared for the track. If yours is to be a Sunday car, or even more, a car show car, make sure you buy one like that - it costs far less to buy one that someone else has spent the thousands on than to do that work yourself.....unless of course the project is what you are after!
Really good Intel as I wasn't sure whether my budget was realistic. I desperately need to get in one to confirm that it grabs me the way my old Porsche did. I'm sure it will as there's always been good crossover between the two manufacturers and their devotees

Its got a years ticket, 46k miles and a couple of nice modifications from the previous owner like ali rad and hard fuel lines. It does need a new hood and the paintwork isnt immaculate but.....its a TVR and i love it!!!!

im really itching to get stuck in and these things looks so imminently moddable... ive never been down that route before but with these beasts there do seem to be a number of aftermarket vendors that do make stuff better than tvr originally specced the car with?
