Right, I have a question that surely only PH can answer..

I'm currently converting my car from an Emerald ECU to GEMS and as part of it, I've ripped out most of the wiring and started again. I'm currently looking at making a 2 speed fan controller and I want to site the relays under the dashboard. To do this I need to run some wires from the fans directly back to the interior and my first thought is to go through one of the wings. It seems from a little poking with a coat hanger though that they might be sealed off. Can anyone tell me if this is the case?

I'd rather use the near side wing as my fan switch is on that side of the radiator.. Any ideas..??

Hmm that was going to be plan B but sounds like it will have to be plan A...

Hmm well that is strange, perhaps there is some foam in there...I have the whole dash out so I'll see if I can try something a little more persuasive to get through.. If not then the grommet will work, though it's currently sealed off and I've put a new mil spec connector in so I can disconnect the whole engine loom with one connector (made it a doddle to install!)

Old ECU is currently on EBay, and new ECU does lots of things but the main reasons I've gone for it are:

- completely self learning (no more trips to the dyno)
- fully loaded with maps developed by rover for the engine (including knock), tested in all conditions at a cost of millions, so hopefully a super refined drive
- OBD port with on board diagnosis and all OEM fault codes, then a wifi connection so it can all be read from my iPhone/iPad

Its a pretty clever ECU that one, to the point if one cylinder misfires it can pick up which one by the reduction in flywheel speed. In terms of its self leaning what are the target AFRs ? - are these programmable or is it set for best emission through out the map? Is this a Mark Adams set up or has some one else cracked it?
Yeah Mark Adams talked me through it in detail and it is a very complicated ECU in terms of what it can do. I'm working with Mark and he has done the base chip with AFM targets; he said he has done a couple of supercharged 4.6 Rovers and put the ECU on with a guessed map, then put it on the dyno later to check what the ECU had done and could make no improvements over what the ECU had made. He will want to check it to make sure it's working correctly but it sounds really clever!
