Door mirrors - Help!

As the title really, I have looked on here to find some good information on mending and keeping the original door mirrors, but most of the information was old and had little or no photos.
So these are my photos of the problem I have with the passengers side door mirror unit. it's broken off! Simple
So where to go from here?
1. Try and mend it as the previous owner tried to do?
2. Buy a new one - V. expensive?
3. Convert to VW Corrado. (I would really like to keep the car original though)
Your thoughts + suggestion guys / girls?
Here the mirror unit opened and you see the original repair-
On the underside of the repair. - You can see the extent of the broken ring as it was before. I don't think it was hanging on with much!
Here you can see the broken part and the little grub screw (indicated) that holds the "toadstool" on the door bos
On the underside of the "toadstool" is a screw but I can't get to it with out getting first the grub screw lose. But I have already cut two allen keys down to try and get to the grub screw but can't get to it. Just not enough room
Any wise words of wisdom / help!

To get the the tripod off i followed the wisdom/guides available but the tripod just spun, I couldn't undo the grub screw to allow the tripod to come off in-situ, forcing the tripod off was a no go as well as it is made from the same "Monkey Metal" as the frame and would easily break when given any force. I tried tapping the collar round anti clockwise too but it was seized solid, lots of penetrant etc and still no joy.
I will try and describe the solution I came up with :-
Insert two heavy duty flat blade screwdrivers vertically into the slots in the collar, use some form of G-Clamp or Kwik Grip to hold the two screwdriver handles together, now insert another heavy duty flat blade screwdriver horizontally between the shafts of the two vertical screwdrivers, making a crude T-Bar now push down on the vertical screwdrivers and rotate the horizontal one anti-clockwise to break the lock on the collar.
With the lock broken you can now unwind the collar from the door with the tripod attached (take care not to twist the wiring too much).
Once the collar is off you can now get to the grub screw and remove it allowing the tripod to be removed from the collar, you can then use a decent allen key / torx driver in from the bottom of the tripod to undo the final bit of the broken frame from the tripod.

I will try the two screw drivers + the twisting motion to get the Collar unscrewed from the Bonded boss in the car door (If I have that correct?) as suggested by "ukdj".
Then I will see what I do then. I think due to time and hopefully the good weather coming (crossed fingers) that I will order a new inner unit from RaceTech and have it sent over. Saving time and having then a complete "new" door mirror.

if you take the speaker out of the door you can reach in and get to the electrical connector, the only issue is some idiot at TVR made the threaded hole smaller than the connector!
"Yep been there done that" You are correct of course.
But TVR could have made separate connections so that you could pull each wire through the screw threaded hole separately.

You won't believe it, but I have to be in Norway that weekend!! I'm P*****d off about it, the first time I have my TVR in Begium and I can't go to the "Ball".I feel like trowing a tantrum. (Oh I think I am %%$$##@@)
Small update:
I have managed to unscrew the tripod and collar from the boss in the door. As "ukdj" said above.
Here are some photos to illustrate and help others in the future with their "Broken Door Mirror" or "Lose Door Mirror" problem.

I then found it easier to undo the cables at the mirror end than in the door.
First undo the three small torx screws (red arrows), then unplug the connector at the back.
The advantage of this is that you don't have the door mirror hanging down, and getting in the way.
