On the final furlong of rebuilding the engine and it's time to refit the timing cover next. New front seal in, oil pressure relief valve slightly stiffer and new oil pressure sender.

On inspection of the pump, there are no cracks or teeth missing. There is however scoring on the oil pump gears and the small cover.

Now I'm assuming there are two trains of thought here:
1) the scoring has been done and it's bedded in now. If the structure is intact then stay with it.
2) If there is scoring, change the gears.
3) if you're doing an engine rebuild, changing the oil pump gears is a matter of course job to be done.

Your thoughts gentlemen....?

Thanks chaps. New one ordered. That's all the pumps renewed in the car now silly
Will have a go at wet 'n' drying the cover plate later with a block.

One question - will packing the pump with Vaseline have an adverse effect on the running in oil? Is there something else I can pack it with that is not petroleum based? (I am aware of priming the pump with an attachment down the dizzy hole. But would prefer to avoid that ball ache.)
