As per the thread title, can anyone recommend an ideal oil for lubricating the hinge?

Obviously WD40 won't cut it, and I've tried some normal motor oil (purely as I had some to hand when I first noticed it) and it doesn't seem to penetrate into the hinge enough to do anything. I have access to vast amounts of commercial grease for lubricating agricultural machinery, but no way of getting it into the joint. If only TVR had fitted grease nipples...

Is this likely to be solvable without removing the door or am I going to have to bite the bullet?

I did find a thread on here from 2010 where someone had the same problem but with the driver's door- but it doesn't appear to have reached a satisfactory conclusion!

Any recommendations of lubricants (ooh err) that might be up to the job, greatly received smile

Hi

Had the exact same thing on my Griffith last week; I sprayed some silicon lubricant into the hinges and this shut it right up. smile

That's a good shout, I'll pick some up in the morning and give it a go.

Ta for the suggestion, I hadn't considered that!

Get some " white grease " aerosol , the stuff the dealers use on hinges and locks. It will penetrate a bit like wd or gt85 and leave a nice grease deposit!
Fantastic, thank you! thumbup

Ta for all the suggestions- yesterday morning I realised I still had half a can of GT85 spray in one of my spare toolboxes, sprayed some of that into it and the noise has gone thumbup

I'll keep an eye on it, but if all Chim fixes can be this straightforward I'll be a happy chap! hehe
