What's your latest thinking in oil for TVRs when tracking? This is for the Chimaera rather than the Cerb

I'm assuming the car is mainly being used on track in the spring/summer/autumn

If you ever use it in the winter, and park it outside in sub zero temps, then these may not be ideal

If you want to really splash out try Motul 300V Comp (15W-50), it even smells lovely as it's a proper ester based synthetic oil. I used to use the 300V Chrono (10W-40) in the Cerb, but my oil consumption is fairly high so it gets very expensive very quickly.

Alternatively I am a big fan of Penrite HPR15 (15W-60) which I have used extensively in the 928, I would use HPR10 in the Cerb, but I don't find it that easy to get hold of.

I'm currently using Mobil 1 Extended Life (10W-60) in both cars, but only because I've been using the 928 over the winter. I have used Mobil 1 Motorsport (15W-50) in the 928 before but it has now been discontinued.

Another highly recommended option would be Valvoline VR1 Racing (20W-50), I know lots of 928 owners who use it.

The RV8 is a very close match to the 928 engine for oil, the Cerb is similar but needs a slightly lighter oil (as it's a slightly more recent design).

All three have flat tappets and aggressive cam profiles, so they definitely need high ZDDP. More recently I've read that the level itself is not that important, it's how long it lasts, as ZDDP gets used up over the life of the oil. Obviously starting with more means it lasts longer (and you can't tell when it's getting low!). The main downside with high ZDDP is Cat life, not that my cars have Cats.

All the oils I've mentioned have ZDDP > 1100ppm, whereas 'modern' oils are ZDDP < 700ppm

Hope that helps, let me know what you decide to do
