electric windows

Not a great deal of joy on the Griffith forum with this so apologies for the non-Chimaera nature of this post (still we're all in it together eh?!):

Leccy windows don't work (stuck down). They both went at once so I'm assuming the fault is in the common circuit. Fuse is OK. Is there a common relay/earth or something else obvious that could have failed?

Yes. I checked the windows, they both went up and down perfectly. I bought the car. After a 100 mile drive home with both windows down (actually about an inch off the very bottom of their travel) neither will shift up or down! Any ideas?

Cheers Guys, that gives me something to be going on with. A full electrics overhaul is on the cards anyway - I guess I've got to start somewhere...

Can I just (gently) lever the switches out? (They are Cavalier ones - at least they look like the ones in my Calibra from years ago)?
