Odometer stopped at 29,999 !!!

Following on from the boot that does not shut on my Chim, now I discover that the odometer has called it a day (and tripometer), and stopped at 29,999 miles!!
Is this a common problem?, if so, is there any solutions to it,,, it is tempting to leave it for a few thousand miles
, but I would not like that done to me if I bought a car from someone, (I will maybe trade it in for a Tamora or Tuscan one day!), so I would like this fixed ASAP!
Could I fix it, or will it be a specialist garage job!!!
